CAROLYN S CORNER by Carolyn Martel
Give all your worries to God
H ave you ever choked on a piece
of food? Scary, huh? Did you
know that Jesus
warned His
disciples about the dangers
of choking? However, the
warning Jesus gave was not
one of a physical nature. So,
what kind of choking was
Jesus talking about?
The answer is
found in Mark 4:19.
Jesus said, "And the
cares of this world...
and the desire for
other things enter in and choke the word,
and it becomes unfruitful.”
Have you noticed that when the "cares
of this world” becomes the focal point of
our lives that nothing good ever comes
from it?
Years ago, I heard a preacher say, “Care
is not something you are supposed to
carry” Another word for “care" is worry
Look at what we do when we worry We
nurse it, we rehearse it, we stuff it, and we
end up miserable.
I Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries
and cares to God, for He cares about
you.”
This verse reveals God's love and con
cern for us. When we learn to confidently
cast our cares over on to Jesus, our lives
are transformed. We find ourselves not
being so grumpy, and hard to live with!
When Jesus lifts burdens from our weary
shoulders, He restores our joy and re
freshes our troubled souls. Hallelujah!
And husbands and wives, don’t over
whelm your mate with all your worries.
Discuss them, yes! But if you want real
peace of mind and a happy marriage,
make the commitment to place all your
cares and concerns over onto God's big
broad shoulders. He's big enough to carry
the load that you cannot carry in your
own strength.
Back to Peter. Did you notice that he
said we are to give “all” of our wor
ries and cares to God? All means all!
Jesus wants the big part, middle part,
small part and everything in-between!
Sometimes were guilty of giving Jesus
only a portion of our cares. We have a
tendency to overthink things, and
we allow our minds to be over
run with negative thoughts. The
result? We can end up depressed
and feeling overwhelmed.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve
talked to people who have great difficulty
receiving God’s love.
They’ve been so beat up by this life, and
have suffered so much rejection from
other people that they transfer those
feelings over to God and they assume
He is the same way. They see God as a
non-caring, impersonal God who surely
couldn’t love them. So they hold on to
their worries.
The blessings and comfort found in
God’s word (which could be theirs) is
choked in the throat of unbelief.
God wants to help you, so let Him help!
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understand
ing; in all thy ways acknowledge him,
and He will direct thy paths” Proverbs
3:5-6.
One last thought. Never doubt that
God loves you and wants to help you.
Give all your worries and cares to Him.
