INCIDENT REPORTS . July 13, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Mich, man jailed for marijua
na possession at traffic stop
Deputy Anthony Thompson
was overwhelmed by the smell
of marijuana at a stop on a gray
2020 Jeep Trail Hawk with a
47-year-old male driver and
female passenger near Johnston-
ville Road on June 14 around 4:19
p.m. and the driver was arrested
for possession. Thompson had
seen the SUV fail to maintain
lane before the stop and when
he approached the vehicle, he
could strongly smell weed when
the occupants rolled down the
windows.
The driver who had a Michigan
drivers license was asked to step
out of the Jeep to the rear where
Thompson asked him if he was
doing okay, and he replied that
he was and was tired from driv
ing from Michigan. Thompson
noticed that he had a lighter
holder on his waist labeled with
“420” which is a number known
to be associated with smoking
marijuana.
Thompson told him he just
wanted to make sure he was okay
and that he hadn’t been drinking.
The man replied that he hadn’t
been drinking, but that he was
just tired.
When asked how long he had
been on the road, he said that
they had gotten a room last night
in Kentucky and that they were
traveling to the passenger’s sister’s
house in Florida. He said the Jeep
belonged to the passenger.
The deputy then spoke with
the woman and asked her for the
vehicle’s registration, but she said
she had left it on the table at her
home. Thompson then returned
to the driver and asked if they
had been smoking any marijuana.
He replied that they had earlier in
the day and when asked if there
was any inside the SUV, he an
swered, “No”. Thompson told him
that due to the odor of marijuana
he was going to do a probable
cause search and removed the
passenger from the car. She told
him she had a medical marijuana
card and had marijuana in her
purse.
Several bags of marijuana were
found in two bags in the spare
tire area of the trunk and a Ziploc
bag of the weed was found in the
glovebox. Both occupants denied
knowing who the marijuana
belonged to and they were then
both handcuffed. The driver then
spoke up and said, “I put it there.”
The woman denied having any
knowledge of the marijuana and
was released with the vehicle. The
man was taken to jail and charged
with marijuana possession.
Motorcycle rider pulls pistol
on interstate traveler
Cpl. Dalton Mosely was notified
of a BOLO involving 3 motor
cycles and that one of the riders
had pulled a gun on a silver GMC
Yukon in the left lane of 1-75 S
on June 18 around 10:56 p.m.
Mosely saw a group of motor
cycles near North Lee Street and
notified Cpl. Jaleel Brown who
was waiting for them just south of
Hwy. 18.
Brown initiated a stop, and the
deputies were able to identify a
28-year-old Forsyth man who
told them he was doing around
70 mph in the fast lane and
flashed his lights so the Yukon
would get over, but the driver
slammed on their brakes. He said
he then went around the Yukon
and got in front of it and the
Yukon came up right behind him
getting very close to hitting him.
He stated he then waved his arms
at the Yukon, and it began get
ting close to him again. He then
pulled his firearm and pointed it
at the Yukon and the Yukon then
backed off.
The complainant, a 39-year-old
man from Farmington, Mo. was
waiting for deputies at Rumble
Road and told Mosely he was
traveling on 1-75 S near Hwy.
36 when the rider began flash
ing his lights behind his vehicle.
He said he was stuck in traffic
and unable to move over due to
an 18-wheeler in the next lane.
When he passed the semi-truck,
the motorcycle rider began brake
checking him and pointed a pistol
at him. He said he then backed
off being fearful that the man
would shoot at his vehicle with
his family inside.
Brown released the riders and
Mosely escorted the Yukon into
Bibb County.
Florida man charged with
DUI-drugs after blocking
Rumble Road
A Florida man was charged
with DUI-drugs on June 20
around 3:15 a.m. after Cpl.
Dalton Mosely was dispatched
to Rumble Road where he found
a 2015 Ford F350 with a trailer
attached blocking one lane. The
39-year-old driver was standing
outside the truck swaying side
to side as Mosely approached to
speak with him. His female pas
senger was sitting in the passen
ger seat of the truck.
The man started walking
towards Mosely who asked him
what he was doing out so late to
which he replied that he had been
doing paving work at a restaurant
up North and was traveling back
to Florida. As he was speaking
with the corporal the man was
swaying and jerked back to posi
tion several times.
Mosely had him stand in front
of his patrol car while he spoke
with the passenger, asking her
if they had taken any drugs. She
responded that they had taken
meth on the night before. She
was then asked to step out of the
pickup and asked if there were
any drugs inside the truck. She
replied that there wasn’t. Mosely
then called for backup as he
walked her to the front of his car.
He spoke with the driver again
and told him he knew they had
taken methamphetamine the
night before. The man began
telling the corporal he was just
tired and as he spoke his eyes
would quickly roll up and come
back down into focus, he was also
swaying and would snatch back
trying to stand up straight. He
then stated he hadn’t taken any
meth for 3 weeks. No contraband
was found in the vehicle after
deputy Christopher Marsh ar
rived to assist with a search.
After failing a sobriety test, the
driver was handcuffed, arrested
for DUI-drugs then taken to the
Monroe County Hospital for a
blood test before going to jail.
Buice Towing removed the ve
hicle and trailer out of the road.
Florida man arrested after
failing sobriety test
Cpl. Jaleel Brown conducted a
traffic stop on a white 2000 Nis
san pickup for failure to maintain
lane and speeding on June 22
around 10:20 p.m. on 1-75 S near
North Lee Street and the 25-year-
old male driver from Yulee, Fla.
went to jail for DUI.
It took two miles for the pickup
to pull over after Brown activated
his emergency equipment while
failing to maintain lane and
weaving into the emergency lane
before finally coming to a stop at
the North Lee Street bridge.
While speaking with the driver,
Brown noticed he seemed very
lethargic and moving slowly. He
told the corporal he was headed
back to Florida from work and
Brown had him step out to speak
with him at the rear of the truck.
When asked if he had been
drinking the driver said he had
not.
After running his information
Brown learned he had active war
rants for public intoxication and
had him perform a sobriety test.
A lack of smooth pursuit with
his eyes, stepping off the line,
along with the improper number
of steps caused him to be hand
cuffed and taken to jail for DUI.

rested for elderly abuse around
3:19 p.m. on June 22, a day after
being arrested and released on
an outstanding warrant. Deputy
Matthew Mimbs was dispatched
to a Rivoli Road home regarding
a domestic dispute and found a
man standing at the side of the
home by the garage with blood
on his arms and shirt. He told
Mimbs his 50-year-old son had
attacked his wife and that they
were still inside the home.
The man took the deputy
through the garage into the house
and Mimbs saw the son stand
ing at the bottom of the stairs
putting on a bloody shirt with
his face covered in blood. Mimbs
asked him several times to step
outside to his car, but he refused
to respond, instead continuously
staring at the wall. He eventu
ally acknowledged Mimbs and
walked out to his car but would
not answer any questions.
As they were standing by
the patrol car, the man’s mood
quickly changed, and he became
aggravated at his father. He sud
denly started walking towards his
father and Mimbs grabbed his
arm to stop him. The man began
to pull away, so the deputy took
him to the ground, handcuffed
him, and secured him in the
backseat of his patrol vehicle.
His mother was in the living
room and Mimbs saw that she
had a black eye, and the entire
right side of her face was com
pletely swollen. She had dried
blood on her arms and face, and
she showed Mimbs her shirt
that had blood all on it. She told
Mimbs that she was in the kitch
en cooking when her son came
downstairs and started randomly
punching her unprovoked. Her
husband said that she then fell to
the ground and their son contin
ued punching her while she was
down. The father then grabbed
him and put him in a choke hold
to make him stop but his son
overpowered him and continued
hitting his mother.
The father said he then got his
revolver from the bedroom and
struck his son in the head. He
then stopped hitting her and the
father picked his wife up from the
floor.
