Ladies Night at The Pitt a hit

Mary Persons football held its first an
nual Ladies Night on Friday night, July
15, and many considered it a big success,
you might even say a touchdown.
“We had a blast,” said Holli Shipman,
whose son Tripp just finished his MP
career and is now playing football for
Gordon. “There was music playing, and
it was very fun and well organized.”
Many college and high school football
programs have been holding Ladies
Nights to teach moms and ladies about
the manly sport of football, and now
Mary Persons has joined the fun. First the ladies
had dinner, and then coaches Brian Nelson, Jason
Morrow and Clint Kent taught them Football 101.
The ladies learned commonly used plays. Then the
ladies went out and rotated through 6-8
football drills like many of their sons do
daily.
“It made me even more excited for the
upcoming season,” said Amy Knight,
whose son Malaki will be a junior for
the Bulldogs. “I loved that everyone
got prizes that were donated from local
businesses. We all got something just for
showing up.”
Coach Nelson said he was happy it
went well for the first time. “We have
never done anything like that before.
We showed the ladies what their sons
go through at practice. We also showed
them the equipment and safety mea
sures to reassure them about their sons.”
When the season starts in August, more Mary
Persons moms in the stands than ever will have an
idea what’s going on.
