A fugitive who Monroe
County deputies stopped
with a P.I.T. maneu
ver after a wild 14-
mile chase at more
than 120 mph had
to be tased before
he could finally be
taken into custody
around 4:05 a.m. on
July 8. According to
the report released
by the sheriff’s of
fice, dispatch sent
deputy Enrique
Hogan on a call about a
woman being chased by a
shirtless man running along
the interstate. The shirtless
man, Daniel Young of Tal
lahassee, Fla. is now facing
four counts of aggravated
assault on a police officer
and a laundry list of traffic
offenses.
Deputy Charlie
Bryson found
the woman
walking near
Hwy. 83 with
visible injuries to
her face. Deputy
Enrique Hogan
then saw Young
in a silver 2014
Nissan Altima
pull into the
Royal Seven convenience
store and initiated a traffic
stop. Young briefly stopped
his vehicle when he noticed
the blue lights, but did a
U-turn on Hwy. 83, looked
at the deputy in the face
and yelled out, “F*** you!”
Young then sped off to the
northbound ramp of 1-75
and the pursuit began with
Sgt. Kevin Williams joining
the chase.
Young nearly struck
the rear of Brysons patrol
vehicle parked on the
shoulder with the female
victim, but Bryson was able
to avoid being rammed.
Speeds reached 115 mph
and Young noticed Wil
liams was positioning his
vehicle to perform a RI.T.
maneuver so began swerv
ing at his car trying to rim
him off the road. He also
tried to ram Hogans car.
Young then also attempt
ed to strike civilian vehicles
as well other marked patrol
vehicles. As the pursuit
entered Butts County Cpl.
Larry Sullivan took the
lead to position himself to
perform a P.I.T. maneuver.
Again, Young tried to ram
his Altima into Sullivans
vehicle by swerving left and
right.
Finally, near Hwy. 36 Sul
livan was able to move his
car into position to perform
a P.I.T. maneuver, hitting
the right rear of Youngs
vehicle causing it to spin
out, leave the road and
flip, bringing an end to the
pursuit.
While deputies tried to
pull Young through the
driver side window, he
hooked his foot on some
thing inside his car and
continued to resist by grab
bing the frame of the ve
hicle until Hogan stunned
him with his taser forcing
him to comply.
Once Young was on the
ground, he again tried to
resist by locking his arms
under his body to prevent
deputies from handcuffing
him. Once was handcuffed,
deputies tried to place him
into the rear of a patrol
vehicle, but again he contin
ued to resist so Hogan tased
him once more. He then
immediately began to fol
low orders without further
incident.
EMS was called to
evaluate and treat Young for
minor injuries he suffered
during the crash and while
being arrested. When he
was removed from the pa
trol car by EMTs he began
insulting deputies trying to
entice them to harm or kill
him.
He was taken to the Mon
roe County Jail and charged
with 4 counts of aggravated
assault on law enforce
ment with a motor vehicle,
4 counts of obstruction,
fleeing, DUI-refusal and
