Mary Joyce Long
April 9, 1933 - July 15, 2022
Mary Joyce Jackson Long passed away Friday, July 15,
2022 at Monroe County Hospital, surrounded by her
loving family Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.,
Sunday, July 17 at Fairview United Methodist Church with
visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will
follow in Forsyth City Cemetery Rev. Stanley Harrell will
officiate.
Mary was born April 9,1933 in Forsyth to the late
Ernest Jackson and Maude Smith Jackson. Her husband
of 70 years James Edmond Long preceded her in death.
She was previously employed as a clerk at Monroe County
Tax and Tag Office working beside her sister Ella Weldon,
Tax Commissioner and she also was a poll worker during
election times with Monroe County Registrars. Mary was
a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist, a loving
mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to
all.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Sandra Waldrep
(Jimmy) and Susan Pearce (Gerral); grandson; B. Todd
Smith and his wife, Mary Kay; great grandchildren, Benja
min, Matthew and Mary Margaret Smith. She was “Nana”
from the time Todd was born. He was her favorite person
and she was so very proud of all his accomplishments.

tions to Fairview United Methodist Church, 137 Fairview
Church Road, Forsyth, GA 31029.

Mrs. Lucy Mae Thurmond passed on
Saturday July 9,2022 in Illinois. Services
were held Friday, July 15 at Antioch Baptist
Church, 1096 Old Cabiness Road, Forsyth.
Rev. Rickey Shannon was the officiant.
Burial in church cemetery. Public view
ing was Friday, July 15 at Antioch Church
Cemetery. Freeman Funeral Home, For
syth, was in charge.

Hunter Bruce Morrison
April 16, 1994 - July 1 1, 2022
Hunter Bruce Morrison, 28,
passed away Monday, July 11,
2022.
Hunter was born April 16,
1994 in Cairo, Georgia. He
was a 2012 graduate of Cairo
High School. He was a 2017
graduate of Valdosta State
University where he obtained a
Bachelors Degree in Business
Management and met the love
of his life, Olivia. After gradu
ation, Hunter began his career
in commercial truck sales
where he often surpassed sales
goals. Shortly after beginning his career, Hunter and Olivia
decided to settle down in Forsyth and get married. He will
be remembered most by his giving heart and selfless love.
Hunter s legacy lives on through his precious son, Tanner
Banks Morrison, who was born June 19,2022.
Survivors include his wife, Lauren Olivia Morrison of For
syth; one month old son Tanner Morrison; parents, Darren
Morrison (Cassie) of Cairo and Tracy Buckhalter (Chris)
of Cairo; sister, Macey Alexander (Garrett) of Savannah;
grandparents, Arthur and Lenora Thomas of Cairo and
Mary Ann White of Cairo. He was proceeded in death by
his grandfather, Danny Morrison of Cairo.
Funeral services were held at Monday, July 18 at Rock
Springs Church-Macon with burial Tuesday, July 19 at
Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, Georgia. In lieu of flow
ers the family suggests donations to the Benefit for Hunter
Morrison Family fund at United Bank in Forsyth or through

Robert Grady Ogletree Jr.
March 22, 1956 - July 12, 2022
Mr. Robert Grady Ogletree (Bay Buddy)
passed on Tuesday, July 12,2022. Services
were held Saturday, July 16 at Rest Haven
Cemetery, 525 Hwy. 83 South, Forsyth.
Rev. Rufus J. Whatley officiated. Public
viewing was Friday, July 15. Freeman
Funeral Home was in charge.

Mirta Aurora Barrera Vento
Aug. 13, 1939 - July 18, 2022
Forsyth - Mirta Vento passed away at her home on
Monday, July 18,2022. A funeral mass will be held at 11
a.m. Friday, July 22 at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church,
Macon. Entombment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial
Gardens. Father William McIntyre will officiate. A rosary
will be prayed Thursday, July 21, from 5-5:30 p.m. with the
visitation following until 7 p.m. at Monroe County Memo
rial Chapel.
Mrs. Vento, the daughter of the late Donato Barrera and
Felicia Serrano, was born Aug. 13,1939, in Pinar del Rio,
Cuba. As a child, she enjoyed working in the family’s gen
eral store and attending cock fights with her father. Mirta
was the second oldest of six children. She contributed to the
family’s finances by taking in sewing and embroidering jobs
from the locals, and later selling sweet treats to the workers
in the tobacco fields. At the age of 17, she met the love of
her life, Ricelo, and were married in June 1962.
In May 1971, the family emigrated to the U.S. fleeing
communist Cuba. Mirta was a homemaker and took care
of children to supplement the family’s income. She also
worked as a seamstress in garment factories and bridal
salon for many years. She had a passion for plants, cooking,
and caring for loved ones. The Ventos moved to Monroe
Co. from Miami, Fla. in 2006 to be with their children and
help raise their granddaughters.
Mrs. Vento is preceded in death by husband Ricelo, broth
er Donato Barrera Jr., and sister Migdora Cruz; survived
by daughter, Barbara Woodward (Dale) of Forsyth, son
Alex Vento (Carla) of Monroe County, sisters Mery Marti
nez (Jose), Noemi Marimon and Marta Diaz of Miami, Fl,
granddaughters Emily McCallister of Marietta and Amelia
Vento of Monroe County.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Pe
ter Claver Catholic Church, 131 Ward St, Macon Georgia
31204.
