Rotary donates benches
Forsyth Monroe County Rotary Club donated two benches for citizens of Forsyth and
Monroe County to enjoy. One of the benches will be at the Samuel E Hubbard Campus
and the other will be at the Forsyth City Park near the walking trail. Forsyth Monroe
County Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at Shoney s on Harold G Clarke Pkwy
and welcomes those interested in joining community-minded members. For more informa

Remember when...
1992
During this week 30 years
ago...
Jim Ham won the County
Commissioner Chairman
spot and avoided the runoff
by 1 2 votes then to 6 votes
after four recounts. The
runner-up, Jim Fletcher, kept
requesting recounts, and
when that didn t work, he
hired an investigator.
Voting numbers turned out
much better than expected,
as fifty-four percent of
Monroe County residents
registered. The predicted
turnout was between 35
and 40 percent. It felt short
of the high 60 percent in
1988.
The Monroe County Board
of Education opened up a
new middle school for the
1992-93 school year.
Three separate car crashes
tangled traffic on 1-75 for
several hours. The three
accidents happened within
minutes and feet of each
other. It involved a total of
1 1 vehicles and 1 1 people
sent to hospitals.
Kentucky artist Mitchell
D. Tolle will have had his
work shown at the Forsyth
Holiday Inn, and the exhibit
was sponsored by Painted
Treasures.
One of the first armadil
los was found in Monroe
County on Maynard Mill
Road. Edith Brown discov
ered it dead and thought it
was an opossum. It was only
the second to be spotted in
Monroe County, and both
were found dead.
High Falls State Park spon
sored a free Hunter Safety
Class, which consisted of
two classes. Both were held
at the High Falls Group
Shelter, and it was required
for all hunters born after
Jan. 1, 1961.
The 9 and 10 year old Dixie
Youth baseball tournament
was held at the Monroe
County Recreation Depart
ment, and the Monroe
County All-Stars opened
against Wrens.
2002
During this week 20 years
ago...
Monroe County commis
sioners voted to lower the
percentage of Local Option
Sales Tax (LOST) money
received by the City of
Forsyth from 33.1% to 26%.
High Falls State Park re-
ceived a $9.25 million boost
for much-needed renovation
and maintenance. It also
received another $150,000
to renovate its popular
group shelter used for
picnics, reunions and other
arge gatherings.
More than 30 children, with
youth and adult volun
teers, attended Backlot
Kids Kamp, where the kids
earned about costumes,
make-up, sets, drama and
music.
Forsyth Ministerial Associa
tion presented an Outdoor
Youth Community Concert
and cookout featuring the
music of Telestai and Gojo
Unplugged at Forsyth Pres
byterian Church.
The Mary Persons Class
of 52 held their 50 year
reunion at Indian Springs
$tate Park with a catered
uncheon.
Greg Putnal and Buddy
Morris caught five bass
weighing a Toal of 13.75
pounds to claim first place
in the July Lake Juliette Bass
Tournament.
The Forsyth golf Club held
a championship tourna
ment. Chuck Dorsett won
the men s tournament with
a score of 1 40, Jack Johns
Jr. won the men’s handicap
championship with a score
of 1 27, Nancy Hart won
the ladies tournament with
a score of 170 and Deena
Smith won the ladies handi
cap championship with a
score of 1 34.

The Union Hill Apartments
held a Workforce Prepared
ness and Development
clinic, where job training
and coaching took place
along with job searches.
“Godspell,” a musical based
on the Gospel of Matthew,
performed at the Rose Aug.
2-5.
Forsyth officers and firemen
teamed up with Norfolk
$outhern to teach drivers
about railroad safety, where
engineers from Norfolk
passed out brochures to
help. They held this class
as a response to Forsyth
resident, Michael Battle,
was tragically struck on
a Norfolk Southern train
about a month before.
$marr resident, Seth Van
Huss, received a $5,000
scholarship from Arthur
W, Perdue Foundation of
Perdue Farms. He used to
money to pursue a medical
degree a the University of
Georgia.
GHSA summer camps
ended, and the Mary
Persons Bulldogs football
team had their first practice
in full pads under new head
coach Brian Nelson.
The Monroe County 8-U
softball All-Stars finished 3rd
place in this Dixie League
tournament in Milledgeville.

Mr. & Mrs. Strozier celebrate
Golden Anniversary
Melton and Paula Strozier will celebrate their 50th
wedding anniversary this Friday They were married on
August 5,1972.
Dr. Melton Strozier is the retired chairman of the
Psychiatry Department at Mercer University, and Paula
Strozier is the retired chairman of the Computer In
formation Systems Technology Department at Central
Georgia Technical College.
Melton and Paula have two sons, Alex Melton Strozier
III of Denver, Colorado and Troy Lewis Strozier of Flow
ery Branch, Georgia.
They will celebrate with a party at First Baptist Church
of Christ in Macon on Sunday afternoon.

Rotary learns about Cotique
Amy Knight, owner of Cotique Boutique,
spoke to the Forsyth Monroe County Ro
tary Club on July 1 4. She has been in busi
ness since 201 3. The business originally
began as a consignment shop and in 201 6
moved to a full boutique. The boutique
includes women s and girls clothing, shoes,
accessories, and gifts (also gift cards).
Sizes in women's clothing range from XS to
3XL and infants to youth 1 4. In the store,
all hangers are color coded for sizes. Visit

purchases. Cotique Boutique is open from
1 2 pm-6 pm Monday through Saturday
(closed on Sunday). Gilda Stanbery, CEO
of the Forsyth Convention and Visitors Bu
