INCIDENT REPORTS . August 10, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Woman charged in
Starbucks'hit and run
A Texas woman was charged
with a hit and run at Starbucks on
July 29 after backing her Forsyth
brothers truck into an SUV.
Cpl. Kimberly Barnett spoke
with the SUV owner who said
that the truck driver backed into
the rear of his SUV, damaged the
bumper and drove off. A witness
stated that there was no way the
driver didn’t know that she hit the
SUV because of how she reacted
to the hit.
When Barnett made contact
with the truck owner, he said
that his sister had his truck at
Starbucks. She said that when
she looked for damage, there was
none. The brother said that she
had a medical disease and wasn’t
sure if she should be driving.
The sister’s license was also
expired. She said that she couldn’t
find her other one, but when Bar
nett ran her name through Texas
records, her license was found
not valid. Due to the sister’s
medical condition, Barnett did
not send her to Monroe County
Jail. A cash bond posted for hit
and run and driving while license
expired.
Hit and run suspect
found behind Ingles
A man was charged with hit
and run on 1-75 South near Tift
College on July 30 after hitting
the left rear side of a woman’s
vehicle, then running to Ingles.
Officer Michael Amerson spoke
with the woman whose car was
hit from behind. She said that
the man ran straight to the exit
after the accident. Corporal Kim
Barnett found the suspect in the
woods near Ingles and needed
help getting him out.
Amerson told the suspect to get
up, and he refused. Amerson and
Barnett took the man to Monroe
County Jail, then took his keys.
They went back to the interstate
and confirmed that the car was
his. He was charged with hit and
rim.
Warrants against couple
after fight in gravel
Warrants were sought against a
Blount Road couple for battery-
family violence on July 30 after
deputy Shania Hawkins was
dispatched to their home. A
female witness told Hawkins the
pair had been arguing all day and
would not stop. She said she was
inside when she heard them yell
ing and when she went outside,
she saw both subjects hitting each
other equally.
Hawkins asked the man what
had happened, and he replied
that they had been arguing a lot
and the woman was hitting him.
He said he tried to stop her and
grabbed her wrist. He also said he
pushed her down into the gravel.
The woman told the deputy
that the man had broken up with
her, so she was going to leave but
he was trying to stop her from
leaving and started hitting and
pushing her. She admitted to
hitting him also and pushing him
to the gravel where he busted his
left eye.
Man jailed after sideswiping
pole at gas pump
A man driving a yellow GMC
box truck with a South Carolina
tag went to jail after officer Dex
ter McCune saw him sideswipe
the pole in front of the gas pump
at the Shell station next to Al’s
Market at 275 North Lee Street
on Aug. 1. McCune discovered
the man had a suspended license,
no insurance, and a warrant for
failure to appear out of Forsyth
County. He was handcuffed and
booked into jail.
Man arrested after
fight with sister
A disturbance at a Patrol Road
trailer park resulted in an arrest
of a man being aggressive to
wards his sister on Aug. 1. Officer
Dexter McCune answered the call
and spoke with the man who was
very hostile with his sister about
an argument between them. He
threw a basket, knocked dishes
off the counter and broke his TV.
He was arrested and taken to jail
for disorderly conduct.
Man tries to get to family
meeting at128mph
A 36-year-old Tampa, Fla.,
man was taken to jail after he
was stopped on Aug. 2 by Cpl.
Larry Sullivan for driving reck
lessly and speeding. Sullivan
stopped the 2022 Hyundai Sonata
after a BOLO was issued and
clocked the car doing 128 mph
as it passed him near North Lee
Street. The Sonata was swerv
ing between lanes and Sullivan
saw the driver swerve in front of
a vehicle in the left lane, before
swerving across both lanes into
the far-right lane.
Sullivan activated his emergen
cy equipment near mile marker
190 and the vehicle stopped on
the right shoulder. The driver told
Sullivan he was in a hurry to get
to a family meeting. Sullivan re
sponded that he was under arrest
for reckless driving and the driver
was cuffed and taken to jail. He
was cited for reckless driving,
failure to signal, and speeding.
Man arrested after trying
to kick in Union Hills Apart
ments door
A Forsyth man was charged
with damaging property and
banned from Union Hill Apart
ments on Aug. 3. Cpl. Kimberly
Barnett responded to a report
of a man who tried to kick in an
apartment door at the Union Hill
Apartments then drove off in a
Kia around noon. Officer Richard
Maddox then saw the Kia turn
onto Kynette Street and speed
away. Maddox caught up with
the car which continued to travel
on Blount Road until reaching
Clearview Avenue where the
driver finally pulled over.
The man told Maddox and Bar
nett that he was at the apartment
complex, but he had not tried to
kick in a door.
Barnett then left Maddox with
the suspect and returned to the
complex where the maintenance
man told her the man asked him
to open an apartment door and
when he refused, the man got up
set and began talking about kick
ing in the door and him having to
fix it. He then watched him walk
to the apartment and heard loud

bangs which he believed was the
man kicking the door. He then
saw him walk to the window to
the living room of that apartment
and begin taking off the screen.
In the process he bent the screen
along the bottom and ruined it
before becoming even more upset
then leaving in the Kia.
The complex manager was on
the phone with the maintenance
man and said she wanted to press
charges and have him banned
from the property. Another wit
ness confirmed the maintenance
man’s statements.
Barnett then returned to Mad
dox and the suspect who was
asked to step from his car and
was handcuffed then taken into
custody.
A woman came from the apart
ments to speak with the officers
and take possession of the Kia.
She was told about the process of
bonding him out in a few hours
after he saw a judge.
Man arrested after taking
pills and driving
A Macon man was jailed for
DUI after a single car accident on
1-75 S involving a 2001 Mitsubi
shi Eclipse Spider. Cpl. Dalton
Mosely took the 37-year-old male
driver from Macon to jail on DUI
charges on Aug. 3. Mosely found
the driver standing by the totaled
Mitsubishi convertible covered
in sweat and with highly erratic
movement. The corporal asked
him to set in the grass for a mo
ment.
The man told Mosely the driver
of a tractor trailer flipped him off
and ran him off the road. Mosely
asked him if he had struck his
head or felt he was hurt any
where. He replied that he didn’t
hit his head and only thing that
hurt were his hips due to a previ
ous issue that affected his ability
