INCIDENT REPORTS . August 24, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Intoxicated woman arrested
after improper stopping in
roundabout
A 21-year-old High Falls
woman was charged with DUI
after her brother stopped her in
the roundabout on Hwy. 18. Ac
cording to the incident report, as
deputy Charles Bryson was pull
ing out of the Dollar General at
Hwy. 18 and Hwy. 87 on Aug. 5,
he saw a black 2015 Honda Civic
and a white 2017 Jeep Grand
Cherokee both stopped in the
road on the roundabout.
As Bryson was pulling up to the
vehicles, he saw a young woman
standing at the driver side door of
the Jeep and her brother was pull
ing her around to the other side
of the vehicle and put her inside.
He then got into the drivers seat,
closed the door, and started to
pull off.
As Bryson started to exit his
vehicle, a red 2017 Toyota Rav4,
driven by the siblings’ mother
approached the roundabout go
ing north. The Toyota stopped,
then started to go between the
other two stopped cars. The Jeep
then started moving and the two
almost hit.
The Jeep then turned east onto
Hwy. 18, and Bryson activated
his emergency lights and drove
around the Honda that was
abandoned in the road with the
drivers door open. The Jeep
pulled over into the parking lot of
the Rum Creek store.
The brother got out as the Toyo
ta pulled into the parking lot next
to the patrol car and the mother
got out and walked to her son.
Meantime, Bryson could hear the
daughter yelling in the Jeep.
Bryson asked the mother and
son what was going on and the
mother said her son was driving
her Jeep and that her daughter
was in the passengers seat. The
brother said the abandoned
Honda belonged to him and that
he had driven it to the round
about.
The mother then admitted
her daughter was drunk and
had been to a concert with her
boyfriend earlier in the day. She
stated her son was trying to get
her home and they had been
tracking her location by cell
phone.
The drunk woman told Bryson
she was trying to go to her dad’s
house and that she and her boy
friend had an argument and she
wanted to leave, so she got in the
Jeep and left.
When she would try to get out
of the vehicle while Bryson was
talking with her, her brother and
mother would yell at her and
keep her from getting out. Due to
the number of people the deputy
radioed for assistance.
When Bryson got the young
woman out of the Jeep to ques
tion her, she was very unsteady
on her feet, very talkative, and
slurring her words. Also, her
eyes were dilated and watery. She
told the deputy she had been to
a concert with her boyfriend and
had three drinks while there. She
added that her boyfriend was
not treating her good and she left
their house on Hester Road, driv
ing to go to her dad’s house on
Rocky Creek Road. Her brother
had stopped her with his car in
the roundabout and put her in
the passenger seat of the Jeep
Cherokee.
Bryson noticed a cut to the left
side of her forehead, and she had
dried blood on her face and shirt.
He asked her how she got the
cut and she stated she got into a
fight at the concert. He asked if
her boyfriend had hit her and she
stated no, he has never hit her.
Monroe County EMS placed a
bandage on her wound and she
agreed to a sobriety test which
was conducted by Cpl. Wade
Kendrick who determined she
was impaired. She also registered
a high alcohol content reading
on a breathalyzer test and was
arrested for DUI and improper
stopping.
Jones St. residents suspect
neighbor of breaking into
home because of his past
Officer Anais Benjamin re
sponded to a Jones Street home
regarding a report of terroristic
threats on Aug. 13 and a 44-year-
old man reported that people up
the street from him were threat
ening him. He told Benjamin a
man and a woman approached
him and said that he tried to
break into their home. When he
told them he didn’t do it the man
told him he was “going to shoot
up his house if he found out if it
was him that tried to break in the
house”.
When Benjamin asked him why
the people said it was him, the
man replied it was because of his
past. He also stated that he wasn’t
even home or in the area around
the time the incident happened.
The officer then spoke with the
neighbors and the woman told
him that it looked as if someone
tried to break into her residence.
She further stated that her
neighbor told her someone was
walking around her property. The
man said that he believed it was
the complainant. Benjamin asked
him why he believed that and he
said because of his past. He added
that he spoke with the man about
the incident but did not threaten
him.
Benjamin informed the woman
she really needed to have some
more evidence before blaming
someone. He also told her she
should have called the police.
She replied that she had cameras
coming to her home for that
reason. Benjamin told the man
not to contact the complainant
and should call the police in the
future. The officer then told all
parties to stay away from each
other.
Forsyth woman cited for
DUI after B0L0 issued
Sgt. Thomas Haskins received
a radio transmission around
2:51 a.m. on Aug. 14 regarding
a BOLO for a white 2017 Kia
Sorento on 1-75 S near Rumble
Road and a 24-year-old Forsyth
woman was later arrested for
DUI and other alcohol-related
charges. Dispatch said the Soren
to was all over the road with the
driver possibly intoxicated.
Cpl. Bruce Hughley of the For
syth Police Department spotted
the vehicle and conducted a traf
fic stop as it exited the interstate
at Cabaniss Road. Hughley later
told Haskins that he saw the Kia
failing to maintain its lane several
times.
Hughley could smell alcohol
as he spoke with the driver and
requested a deputy to perform
field sobriety testing. Haskins
arrived and noticed her eyes were
red and glossy and her speech
was heavily slurred. He also

noticed she had blood on her
knees, which she said was due
to her “falling”. She told Haskins
she was headed to her home on
Maynard Church Road. When
asked why she did not get off at
Juliette Road, since it was the fast
est route to her residence, she told
the sergeant that she was going to
travel back down South Frontage
Road to Juliette Road.
Haskins asked her how many
alcoholic beverages she had
consumed, to which she stated
that she had two “bud light” beers
around hour earlier. Haskins
had her exit the vehicle and she
agreed to a standardized field
sobriety test.
After failing to touch heel to
toe, not counting out loud on
all steps, and not walking in a
straight line, it was determined
she was intoxicated. She also re
ceived a high positive reading for
alcohol on a portable breath test.
There were two empty 20-ounce
cans of alcohol found in her
vehicle. The woman was cited for
open container, DUI, and failure
to maintain lane.
Man caught after driving
without a license for 20 years
A 63-year-old man who has
been driving on a suspended
license for twenty years was
finally arrested by officer Richard
Maddox on Aug. 14 at the Royal
7 Travel Center. Maddox saw the
man pulling out of the parking
lot in a red Nissan Titan onto
Cabaniss Road, ran the tag and
learned the vehicle’s registration
was suspended and had no insur
ance.
The officer initiated a stop and
the man yielded in the parking
lot of the El Tejado Restaurant.
The driver told he hadn’t had a
license for 20 years and that they
were suspended for DUIs from
years ago. Maddox then asked
him to step out of the vehicle and
