First, MP throttled Spalding 41-28 in their home opener at Dan Pitts Stadium on Friday night. Then on Mon day, the GHSA declared the Bulldogs the 14-12 victors in their Aug. 19 contest against Northeast-Macon. The game had been halted by lightning in the third quarter. The GHSA called the Northeast game for MP after attempts by both coach Brian Nelson and the GHSA to reach Northeast coaches to set a date to fin ish the game were unsuc cessful. The GHSAs associ ate director over football, Kevin Giddens, declared MP the winner since the Raiders did not respond in a timely manner. “I was to the point I didn’t care either way,” said Nelson, who’s turning his team’s focus to this week’s opponent, defending state champion Trinity Christian (0-2), a private school from Newnan. See previews of that contest on pages 1-2C. Friday’s game with Spalding was the first full game for the Bulldogs, and MP began by swapping touchdowns with their former region rival. Hunter, who lives in the River Walk subdivi sion and is on the Monroe County zoning board, would only tell the Reporter that he is drop ping out for personal and professional reasons. Hunter had just submit ted about 230 signatures to the Monroe County elections office in July to get his name on the ballot as an inde pendent. But he returned to the See RACE Page 6A EMAMI Deputies hunt down suspect in brutal attack' A Macon man was charged with tying up his baby’s mama and punching her with his fist on Saturday at her Strickland Loop home. Monroe County deputies arrested him for the violent out burst in Macon after tracking his location using his cell phone. Landric Demon Brantley, 31, of Macon, was charged with assault, battery, false imprisonment and burglary for allegedly breaking into his ex’s home and beating her on Saturday. Monroe County deputy Anthony “Rock” Thompson said the victim had just gotten home when Brantley drove up and realized the Strickland Loop home was open. He went inside, tied her up and started punching her in the face, said Thompson. The driver was rushed in a Monroe County patrol car to Atrium hospital for emergency surgery but doctors had to amputate his arm. Two passengers fled on foot but one was caught at the scene and taken to Monroe County Hospital and another remains at large.
