Atrium Health Navicent
opens Forsyth OB-GYN
By Diane Glidewell
news@mymcr.net
Women in Monroe
County now have easier
access to obstetrics and
gynecological care with an
OB-GYN doctor available
at the Monroe Medical
Center, 120 N. Lee Street,
Forsyth every Wednesday
The OB-GYN department
of Atrium Health Navicent
has expanded its services
by opening the Forsyth
office.
The office actually
opened on June 22 and
is now fully operational
and ready to schedule
appointments and wel
come patients. The regular
physician at the office
is Dr. Vincent Fang. A
member of the OB-GYN
team at Atrium Health
Navicent Womens Care
in Macon, he completed
his residency at Atrium
Health and decided to
remain with the depart
ment. His clinical interests
include contraception and
family planning, general
obstetrics and gynecology,
minimally invasive gyne
cologic surgery, robotic
surgery, menopausal health, endometriosis
and pelvic pain.
Fang earned a Bachelor of Science in
psychology at the University of British Co
lumbia and his medical degree at the Uni
versity of Medicine and Health Science, St.
Kitts (2017). He said he is passionate about
expanding access to health care.
“I believe everyone should have access to
care,” said Fang. “I am very excited to be
part of the community)’
He said the Forsyth office will provide
all OB-GYN comprehensive care, with
emphasis on preventive care, including
screenings. He urges women to begin
prenatal care as soon as they know they are
pregnant. Georgia has a high infant and
maternal morbidity and mortality rate,
and early prenatal care has been shown to
improve outcomes.
Fang said he will deliver babies, but
deliveries will be at the Medical Center
in Macon, where extensive resources for
neonatal care are available if needed, rather
than in Forsyth.
Asked why he is the one to come to the
Forsyth office, Fang said that several other
specialties are already located in the Mon
roe Medical Complex and when space
came available for OB-GYN, he jumped
on board.
The other important member of the
OB-GYN team in Forsyth is Tammy
Young. She will schedule appointments for
Dr. Vincent Fang, left, and Dr. Eddie Betcher
the Forsyth office and will be the friendly
representative who greets patients on
Wednesdays. Other weekdays she will
continue to work with the OB-GYN team
in Macon.
“It’s always great when we can expand
care out to patients,” said Dr. Eddie Betch
er, chair of the Atrium Health Navicent
OB-GYN department.
Betcher said that it is always challenging
for rural residents to receive preventive
care when it isn’t readily available near
where they live or work. He said the goal
is to remove the barriers of logistics, which
extend to women needing to find extended
childcare when they must travel to find
care for themselves.
Betcher said Atrium Health identified
a need for the office in Monroe County
through the number of patients travel
ing from the area to the Macon office and
other sources. He said he hopes Monroe
County women of ages will take advantage
of the opportunity to schedule annual
wellness exams close to home.
Atrium Health also partners with Mon
roe County Hospital, 88 Martin Luther
King Jr. Drive, Forsyth. It provides general
medical and surgical care for inpatient,
outpatient and emergency room patients,
including a 24-hour Level III emergency
department, laboratory, radiology and
respiratory, speech, occupational and
physical therapy.
