New era for Lady Bulldog softball
The 2022 Mary Persons Softball Team.

Jessica Evans is the new
head coach of Mary Persons
softball, with 19 years of
coaching experience includ
ing middle school, high
school, and collegiate.
While MP has struggled
so far this year, the Lady
Dogs got their second win of
the year on Aug. 23 over Peach County (4-2) by a 9-2 score.
The JV squad also took down the Trojans uncontested 2-0.
With this victory, MP varsity improved to a 2-5 record.
Asked about her vision for the upcoming season, she
said, “Our slogan this year is compete. I’m focusing on that
inner edge of competing at all times. I’m going to make
sure in the classroom, in practice, and in game time were
going to compete. The players understand that being on
this team isn’t a right, but a privilege.”
The softball team has played a total of 7 matches thus far,
coming out with a 2-5 record. “Right now, were 2-5. We’ve
had very tough competitors, such as Jackson, who is No.
4 in the state right now, but game by game, we are getting
better.”
When asked about major strengths and areas to work
on, Coach Evans commented, “As far as strengths, the
one big thing our girls are doing is competing, not giving
up, working as a team, and capitalizing on working on
the fundamentals. But overall, the strength right now is
showing up, working hard, staying focused, running out
there excited and not rolling over for the other team. As
far as big weaknesses, a big one for the team is confidence.
