same office late last week with a nota
rized affidavit asking that his name be
removed from the ballot.
He would not tell elections officials
why he was removing his name.
While he was running as an inde
pendent, Hunter has only voted in
Democrat primaries and never voted
in a Republican primary since he
started voting in Monroe County in
2004, according to the elections office.
Hunters website, www.bdavidhunter.
com, said his campaign would focus
on affordable housing, sustainability
and program management. The web
site had been taken down by Tuesday,
Aug. 30.
Emami, who won the Republican
primary in May over challenger Tra
vis Daniel, said he is honored to get
another four years.
“I’m really excited and grateful
for the opportunity” said Emami. “I
would like to thank the people who
rallied around me, knocking on doors.
Thanks to them for being willing to
support me. I feel really good based
on the support I have.”
Emami said he will continue to
try to be a conservative voice for the
taxpayers on the board of commis
sioners.
“I think it’s best to treat taxpayer
money like it’s my money, and to treat
the county like it’s my business,” said
Emami. “I feel like I’ve done this and
will continue to do so.”
As for what he expects in coming
years, Emami said the county will
continue to grow but said he thinks
property values will level off or maybe
go down, which will affect county
revenues. He reiterated his theme
over the past few years that the county
is spending too much money and
should return more to the taxpayers.
“If we cannot slow our spending,”
said Emami, “I think were gonna rim
into some trouble whether in the next
4 years or thereafter.”
Emami said he’s done all he can to
send a signal to his fellow commis
sioners and county staff that they need
to taper spending. “I hope we can do
that in time to avoid negative conse
quences,” added Emami.
Emami added that he wishes Hunter
and his family well and hopes every
thing is OK.
