A glimpse of afterlife?
By Ellie Taylor
rd Grade Recess: I
remember this story
like it was yester
day It was a typical
day I was in third grade
at TGS, most days go like
this, get up, get ready, eat
breakfast, go to school, do
some work, eat lunch, go to
recess, and go home, right?
Or so I thought.
My day in third grade is
a day no one else has had.
I woke up like normal, ate
breakfast got ready, and
went to school. The begin
ning of that day was so
boring it was like watch
ing paint dry. The day was
going perfectly fine as usual
until recess came around...
Up until that day I had
never been through any
thing like what happened.
To this day nothing like it
has ever happened. If I’m
being honest I am really
glad it happened because
it changed my life for the
better.
That day, third grade was
a mess at the end of the day.
I went to recess like any
other normal kid, happy
and ready to play in the
dirt. If I’m being honest,
when I was younger I was
not the most athletic kid
you would ever see. I got
really tired really quickly.
My friends and I were
running around outside
in Georgia heat so I went
inside to get some water.
(Here comes the good
part.) I came back outside,
I was standing right in
front of the teachers. I look
at my friends and for two
seconds all I see is this girl
running and then dark.
I woke up in what seemed
like a beautiful field of
flowers. I was laying in the
middle of this field and
there were trees surround
ing me and the flowers. It
was the prettiest thing I
have ever seen. The flowers
were dancing in the wind. I
looked up to see this bright
light standing in front of
me. The light was as bright
as a million flashlights on
me at once. To this day I’m
not totally sure what it was
but in my opinion, I think
it was God. I never knew
I would really see him for
myself.
When I woke up, I was
back at the playground
at school. Teachers and
children were surround
ing me. All I could think of
were the beautiful flow
ers and that bright light.
I think when that girl hit
me, I think something in
my body stopped work
ing and I might have died
for maybe 10 seconds. I
was going through a roller
coaster of emotions.
I seemed perfectly fine
after that. I never passed
out again and I wasn’t even
dizzy. Now that I think of
that day all I can think of
is that bright light and if
it was God or if it was an
angel. I’m not sure if I died
that day or if it was all just
a dream. I think if I really
did die that whoever that
bright light was sent me
back down to earth because
I wasn't done with my life.
After all, I was only nine.
That day, made me
believe in God more than
I ever have before. I started
going to church way more
and begging my mom until
she would take me when
she said no. When I tell
people about God this is
the story I tell. Some people
look at me like I am Big-
foot, but I think it was real.
I think I died one day in
3rd grade and I will always
believe that. Nothing can
make me change my mind
unless some scientist tells
me otherwise.
Friends are worth a lot
By Alexis Stilwell
eeting my best
friend: It was
a blistering,
hot, August
day when I met her. She
had wavy brown hair and
was super smart. This was
the first day of seventh
grade. We had three classes
together. We also had our
lunch class together. In
this lunch class, I had zero
friends. So, I coincidentally
sat right across from her.
She was an extremely quiet
person, so we didn’t talk
for about a week. This was
because she had a friend
at the time who sat next
to her and they did a lot
of the talking there for a
really long time. I swear her
friend could talk for eter
nity if you’d let her. How
ever, Wendy didn’t seem to
mind this.
Then, one day her friend
started to ask me about
anything and everything.
She would say, “Hey, so
I remember you from
elementary school. So, why
did you leave? Also, before
you answer that could you
tell me your name?”
“Oh, um, hi. My name is
Alexis. I moved to Indiana
in fourth grade, but we
decided it wasn’t the best
fit for our family. So, we
moved right back here.” I
responded in a quiet voice.
“Wow! I actually moved
here as well. Im from Texas,
so I don’t really know that
many people.” Wendy re
sponded with excitement.
For the rest of lunch we
talked about our lives and
our families. Wendy talked
about life on a military
base while I talked about
life in Indiana. It truly was
incredible to hear about
all the things Texas has to
offer.
“My dad worked in
the military so we lived
on base. The school was
amazing and a lot of fun.”
Wendy would say.
“Indiana was nice too,
but it was way to cold for
my family’s liking. So, we
decided to move. We were
out of Indiana in a flash.” I
responded, talking about
my own life.
That same day, we were
sat next to each other in
two classes: Science and
English. We honestly found
the situation hilarious. We
talked for the majority of
both classes and we real
ized we both really enjoyed
having each other around.
By the end of the day, we
knew so much about each
other that by the end of the
day, we were constantly
joking about it.
That day truly was one
of my favorite days ever
because I met one of my
favorite people. Wendy is
a hard working, caring,
thoughtful person who
always tries her best to
please others. She has since
created her own little place
in my heart.
To summarize every
thing up, I am extremely
glad that I have had the
opportunity to meant this
amazing person. To me,
she is like a big piece of
my puzzle of life. Without
her, my life would simply
be incomplete. So, I cherish
my friendships because one
day, they might be all you
have. So, make sure you
keep in touch with those
who matter to you.
