MP, MCMS X Country teams race for the top

On Sept. 10, the Mary
Persons Cross Country
women’s team participated
in the 2022 Carrollton
Orthopaedic Invitational
against several other
schools from the area.
In the Women’s 5000
Meters Championship, the
MP squad placed 15th out
of 28 teams with an overall
score of404, led by Kolbi
McBrayer, the school’s
highest placing runner.
Kolbi finished with a time
of 21:51.94, coming in as
the 39th best runner in the
competition.
Mary Persons junior
varsity boys and girls
teams also competed at
the GMC Bulldog Dash in
Milledgeville on Sept. 8.
The Lady Bulldogs took 7th
place out of 17 teams with
181 points. Mary Persons
boys junior varsity finished
20th out of 25 teams with
575 points.
The top runner for the
Mary Persons girls at the
meet was Lilly Colley. The
freshman finished the
3.1 mile race in 7th place
out of 192 runners with a
time of22:57. The next two
finishers for the Lady Bull
dogs are also freshmen:
Amelia Meadows took
32nd place with a time of
25:38, and Ella Martin was
36th at 25 minutes, 44 sec
onds. Completing the team
for the 7th place ranking
were Hannah Goodwin
(60th), Alecia Gifford and
Emma Parker.
The top finisher for the
Bulldogs junior varsity
in the 5K/3.1 mile race
was freshman Matthew
Biers with a time of23:27.
Second to finish for Mary
Persons was junior Colby
Hubbard, and third was
freshman Jordan Mullis at
24:07. Completing the team
at the GMC Bulldog Dash
were Davis Wilson, Bryce
Shelton, Logan Watson, Ike
Dunwody and Evan Rog
ers. Watson and Rogers are
freshman.
The next scheduled event
for the Mary Persons
cross county teams is the
Greyhound Invitational in
Gray on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The meet begins at 8 a.m.
and all Mary Persons cross
country teams are sched
uled to compete.
Meanwhile, Monroe
County Middle School
boys and girls cross coun
try teams gave impres
sive performances at the
Georgia Military College
(GMC) Bulldog Dash in
Milledgeville on Thurs
day, Sept. 8. Both teams
finished in fourth place.
The girls competed with
19 teams and 221 runners;
the boys faced a field of 23
teams and 257 runners.
The top runner for Mon
roe County Middle School
boys in the two-mile race
was eighth grader Bradley
Hendricks who finished
4th overall with a time of
12:32. Next to finish from
MCMS was 7th grader
Ridge Lumley in 13 th place
at 13:41, followed by 7th
grader Robert Groebner in
14 minutes, 33 seconds.
MCMS was was repre
sented by 13 runners in the
two-mile competition, in
cluding Cooper Day, Lucas
Aleixo, Isaiah Singletary,
Cy Bevill, Camden Tolbert,
Cash Meadows, Ryder
Garza, Aaron Tripp Hall
man, Noah Bernier and
Sutton Minter. Singletary,
Tolbert and Meadows are
in 6th grade.
Camryn Miller, 7th
grade, was the first to cross
the finish line for MCMS
girls. She finished 9th out
of the 221 runners in her
race with a time of 15:01.
Finishing 20th overall
was Lucy Tanner at 15:21,
followed by 7th grader Ella
Kemper at 24th overall.
MCMS girls were
represented by 15 ath
letes at the GMC Bulldog
Dash, including Kaylie
Martin, Carlie Davis,
Hadley Wilson, Campbell
Causey, Henley Farmer,
Carli Finch, Alyssa Wright,
Amelia Hulsey, Cassidy
Scandrett, Evelyn Biers,
Abigail Buice and Carolyn
Goode. Martin, Farmer
and Finch are in 6th grade.

The Mary Persons Var
sity Softball team faced the
Jones County Greyhounds
on Sept. 6 in a non-con
ference home game which
they lost 2-3 in a close fin
ish. This loss took the Jones
County record to 3-4 and
took MP down to 5-6.
The following day, the
Mary Persons Varsity team
faced up against the Acad
emy for Classical Educa
tion (ACE) in a home
match. MP was routed 2-11
in a difficult loss against
the Gryphons, decreasing
the squad record to 5-7 and
improving ACE’s season
standings to 12-2.
The 5-7 Bulldogs are pre
paring now for their next
game, a non-league test
once again against Jones
County, who now holds a
4-5 record, standing just
under .500.
