INCIDENT REPORTS . September 14, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Woman speeding through
school zone with suspended
license arrested
A gray Toyota Corolla with a
temporary Ohio tag was paced
doing 45 mph in a school zone
on Main Street by officer Richard
Maddox around 3:05 p.m. on
Aug. 31. The female driver went
to jail after it was found she had a
suspended license.
After Maddox activated his
emergency lights, the woman
pulled over just south of the
Monroe County Board of Educa
tion. She handed Maddox an
Ohio drivers license which Mad
dox soon learned was suspended.
She was handcuffed and seat
belted in the back of his patrol
car.
Driver has Jeep towed away
for not having insurance
Officer Richard Maddox ran
the tags on a black Jeep Compass
traveling south on Lee Street
at Main Street and learned the
vehicle had a suspended registra
tion and no insurance.
Maddox turned on his lights
and the male driver yielded on
Main Street at the Courthouse
Square. He told Maddox he had
no insurance and the officer told
him his car would have to be
towed. He was released with a
court date and the Jeep was taken
away by Forsyth Wrecker Service.
Two men try to duck out of
sight of officer, one in jail
Officer Arthur Musselman was
doing a check of the premises
at the Christ United Method
ist church on North Frontage
Road on Sept. 3 when he was
approached by a concerned
citizen who wanted to report a
suspicious vehicle containing a
man and a woman parked in the
Walmart parking lot. He told
Musselman the car was a dark
blue Nissan with a Marine Corps
license plate and Marine Corps
sticker on the back and was
parked on the grocery side of the
store near the front. He added
that the vehicle had been in the
parking lot for an hour and had
moved to multiple parking spaces
without anyone getting out and
going inside the store.
Musselman found the Nissan
precisely where the complainant
said it would be and saw two oc
cupants slide down in their seats
with only the tops of their heads
showing as he pulled up in his
patrol car.
The driver was arrested for
no insurance and suspended
registration, handcuffed, placed
in the rear seat of officer Jerry
Rafferzeder s patrol vehicle and
taken to the Monroe County
Justice Center. The vehicle was
impounded at the lot of Forsyth
Wrecker Service.
Convicted felon caught with
a pistol and a pound of pot
Around a pound of mari
juana, a scale and a loaded pistol
was confiscated from a vehicle
stopped by Sgt. Kevin Williams
on Aug. 22 on 1-75 N near the
weigh station. After running the
tag, Williams discovered the car
had a suspended registration.
He could smell marijuana at the
drivers side window as well as the
strong odor of an air freshener.
The driver said he was com
ing from his mothers house in
Macon and going back to Atlanta
where he resides. He apologized
for the registration and stated
that he had a month lapse on his
insurance coverage that must
have suspended his registration.
Due to the odor of marijuana
permeating from the vehicle,
Williams asked him exit the ve
hicle and asked about the smell.
The driver then told the sergeant
that there was no way that he
smelled marijuana in his car. He
said that he does smoke mari
juana but never in his vehicle.
A bookbag was found in the car
with around a pound of marijua
na vacuum sealed inside. There
was also a Sig Sauer P365 9mm
pistol with a loaded magazine as
well as a digital scale inside the
center console of the vehicle. It
was also discovered the man was
a convicted felon.
He was then arrested and taken
to the Monroe County Sheriff’s
Office by Cpl. Jaleel Brown and
cited for window tint, obscured
tag, and suspended registration.
Sgt. Williams sought warrants on
the man for possession of mari
juana with intent to distribute,
possession of a firearm during the
commission of a felony, posses
sion of a firearm by a convicted
felon, and possession of drug
related objects.
Wanted man caught
in stolen car
A black 2012 Ford Fusion re
ported stolen out of Indiana was
recovered on Aug. 27 after Cpl.
Jaleel Brown stopped the vehicle
for having an illegible temporary
license plate just south of Hwy. 18
on 1-75 S.
As he made a passenger side
approach to the vehicle, Brown
noticed the car was packed with
personal items as if the 35-year-
old male driver from Venice, Fla.
was moving.
When Brown asked for his
license, the man stated he did
not have a license but was trying
to get to Florida to see his mom
who was in the hospital and very
sick.
He then told the corporal he
could park the vehicle and wait
for his aunt to come pick him up,
but Brown had him step out and
walk back to his patrol vehicle.
When Brown asked for his name
and date of birth, the informa
tion came back with no result. He
was then handcuffed and secured
in the rear seat of Browns patrol
unit where he gave his correct
name which came back that
he was wanted in Indiana for a
firearm violation and narcotics
possession.
He was charged with giving
false information, driving without
a license, using a fictious tag, and
theft by bringing stolen property
into the state. He is waiting in the
Monroe County Jail to post bond
and see a judge regarding extradi
tion back to Indiana.
Jealous wife arrested after
fight with the other woman
A fight between two women
was in progress when deputies
arrived at a camper on Shaw
Avenue on the afternoon of Aug.
30 and after the involved par
ties were separated a 49-year-old
Barnesville woman was cited on a
disorderly conduct charge.
Deputy Hile Hannah spoke
with the Barnesville woman who
was standing at the entrance
of the property with Capt. E.
Johnson.
There was luggage and other
personal belongings sitting on
the ground outside the camper.
The woman told her that another
woman, who was standing next
to the camper, hit her in the head
with a bat while her back was
turned.
She then showed the deputy a
small knot behind her left ear.
She went on to say that she spoke
with the homeowner who told
her that she was allowed to come
to the property to obtain her
belongings but was to only collect
the items placed on the exterior
of the property in front of the
camper.
She said she went inside the
camper and saw her husband
with the other woman both
inside. She said she then became
irate and started yelling pro
fanities. She told Hile she and her
husband have not lived together
for 8 months but were not legally
separated. Her husband had al
ready left the scene when depu
ties arrived.
The other woman who was
standing with Capt. Jarred
Duncan near the camper door
explained to Hile that the
Barnesville woman went into the
Page 5D
lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
camper and began throwing stuff
and making a mess. She also said
that nothing ever got physical
between her, or the other woman
and that the womans husband
fled from the scene when she
called 911.
When Hile returned to the
Barnesville woman to get more
information, the woman was
inconsistent with her facts, even
changing the location of her
injury saying the knot was on
the right side of her forehead
instead of behind her left ear. She
also had stated she had her back
turned to the other woman when
she was hit which would not have
left a mark on her forehead.
After considering the facts and
circumstances Hile arrested the
woman and put her in the back
seat of her patrol car. The jail staff
refused to accept the woman
due to her alleged head injuries,
so Hile took her to the Monroe
County Hospital where she was
released after signing a citation
for disorderly conduct.
Wanted Decatur man cap
tured in Monroe County
A Decatur man wanted by
Walton County went to jail on
Sept. 1 after deputy Cody Maples
stopped a black Nissan Murano
with Pennsylvania plates and two
occupants speeding at 88 mph on
1-75 S near the weigh station.
Maples noticed the odor of
marijuana coming from the car
when he asked the driver for his
license who said he didn’t have
his license on him but instead
gave his name and date of birth.
Maples had him step out and
asked if there was anything
illegal in the Nissan. The man
replied there wasn’t and agreed
to a search. Cpl. Dalton Mosely
arrived, and Maples then had the
male passenger step out
The passenger refused several
times to give his information to
Maples, but the deputy found his
name on several pill bottles inside
the car.
The man started getting fidgety
while listening to dispatch over
the radio saying he was wanted
by several agencies and began
backing away as if he was going
to run.
