news@barnesville.com
An Atlanta area devel
oper is looking to build
a complex of three ware
house/distribution type
buildings on a 109-acre
tract just north of Monroe
County in northeast Lamar
County. The three build
ings proposed would total
1,439,200 square feet.
HFG Development, LLC
is seeking to rezone the
property, which fronts
1-75, High Falls Road and
Turner Road from AR
(agricultural-residential)
to M-2 (manufacturing).
According to tax records,
the property is currently
owned by Arthur Barry
Turner and family.
The largest building pro
posed for the site is 567,600
square feet. The smallest
is 414,000 square feet. The
third is 457,600 square feet.
The rezoning request
went before the Lamar
County planning commis-
quality development. This
would be the highest and
best use for that property)’

Man charged
in family spat
By Steve Reece
stevereece@gmail.com
A Forsyth man went to jail
on Aug. 24 after Sgt. Chris
Sherrell responded to a pos
sible attempted kidnapping.
Sherrell met with Kevin Re-
its, 37, of533 Collier Road
who told him two men had
tried to grab his juvenile
son. He said they smeared
makeup on his
sons face and
when he con
fronted them,
they took off.
Reits took
Sherrell and
deputy Cory
Adkins to 175
Mize Street
where he said
that one of
the subjects, identified as
“Kenny” was hiding. Kenny
told the deputies no one had
tried to kidnap the boy and
that he was helping Reits
work on a car when Reits
abruptly asked him to leave.
Sherrell then spoke with
Reits’ mother, Susan Reits
who said she was out of
town, but she had her
daughter on the way to pick
up the boy and that she
would be there soon. Reits
refused any medical assis
tance and said that once his
sister, Jennifer Fuller arrived
he would allow his son to
go with her. He then went
back onto his property and
closed his gate.
A short time later, dis
patch received a call from
Jennifer Fuller who said
that she was at 533 Collier
Road and that Reits was not
there. While on the way to
meet with Fuller, another
call was dispatched about a
male and a juvenile walking
through the Big Peach Car
Wash parking lot asking for
help.
Sherrell then found Reits
in the parking lot with his
barefoot son who was wear
ing was wearing only a pair
of underwear and a t-shirt,
in addition, the boy had
make-up smeared all over
his face.
Sherrell saw Reits pull
ing the juvenile by his arm,
being very sporadic and
making outlandish claims.
Sherrell told dispatch to
have Fuller meet him at
Big Peach to pick up the
juvenile.
When Fuller arrived and
put the child in the back of
her car, Reits agreed that
it was best that he go with
her but when Sherrell told
him he would like him to go
to his patrol car and allow
Fuller to leave, he became
very combative and said he
wanted to go with her.
While trying to get Reits
away from Fuller’s vehicle,
Reits refused to listen and
again became very combat
ive. When told he
was under arrest
for cruelty to chil
dren, he refused
to put his hands
behind his back
and tensed up.
He was eventually
placed in cuffs after
a brief struggle and
obstruction and
restless conduct were
added to his charges. He
later told Inv. Colvard that
earlier in the day he had
tried some unknown white
powdery substance that was
given to him. Adkins then
took Reits to the Monroe
County Jail. He had been
arrested in May on drug
charges.
