INCIDENT REPORTS . September 21, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Fla. man caught with cash
and drugs in Ford Ranger
Drugs and nearly $2,600 in cash
were found in the car of a Florida
man who was stopped just before
midnight on Aug. 15 by deputy
Justyn Weaver for driving 38 mph
in the left lane on 1-75 near John-
stonviUe Road.
The 33-year-old Jacksonville
Beach, Fla. man was failing to
maintain lanes when Weaver got
behind his white 2001 Ford Ranger
and activated his blue lights. The
driver told the deputy that he
stopped at a prior gas station and
asked him if there was another one
open. He then asked if he could
“possibly get a favor” and follow
him in the emergency lane to the
next exit, saying his truck was
suffering from transmission issues.
He added that he was leaving
South Dakota and heading back to
Florida.
His license was not valid due to a
moving violation. He said he had
received a reckless driving citation
around a year and a half ago. When
he was told that he was under arrest
and his vehicle was to be impound
ed, he put his hands in the air and
exclaimed, “Oh my God!”
When he was told his vehicle was
going to be searched, he displayed
the same emotional response
and it appeared to Weaver that
the man was under the influence
of narcotics. The man asked the
deputy to retrieve $2,599 from his
truck. Along with the cash which
was of multiple denominations
and secured with a rubber band,
suspected psilocybin mushrooms,
a glass smoking pipe, and a grinder
with a green leafy residue/shake
inside was found in the Ranger.
While Weaver was walking next
to his patrol unit, the man tapped
on the window and requested that
Weaver speak with him. He then
told Weaver the mushrooms were
not his and that they were put in
the pickup during packing. He
also said he had a Florida medical
marijuana card, but Weaver let him
know that didn’t matter in Georgia.
The driver then began to ask
questions pertaining to marijuana
being in his system and said he had
a concern about being arrested.
He was then taken to the Monroe
County Emergency Room for a
blood draw and then to the Mon
roe County Jail. He was cited for
failure to exercise due care, driving
without a license, possession or use
of drug-related objects, and DUI. A
warrant was also secured for pos
session of psilocybin mushrooms.
Forsyth man escapes depu
ties after high-speed chase
Two suspects evaded depu
ties on foot after a high-speed
interstate chase on Aug 23. A
2009 Honda Civic with three
occupants was spotted by Sgt.
Thomas Haskins traveling south
at a very slow speed just north of
1-475 on 1-75. Haskins learned
the registration was suspended
and that the vehicles owner had a
suspended license.
Haskins activated his lights
near to make a stop milepost
178 but the 24-year-old Forsyth
male driver sped away. When the
Honda entered 1-475 at 105 mph,
Haskins performed a RI.T. ma
neuver causing the vehicle to spin
out in the left lane. The driver
then leaped from the drivers seat
and ran into the woods on the
southbound side of the interstate.
A male backseat passenger also
took off running into the north
bound lane and into the wood
line.
Haskins ordered the front seat
passenger, out of the car and se
cured him in the backseat of his
patrol unit. He then moved the
Honda out of the travel lanes of
the interstate. The passenger told
Haskins that he did not know
who else was inside the vehicle.
Several large bags of marijuana
weighing 4.5 ounces and a sig
9mm handgun loaded with 9
rounds in the magazine were
found in the Honda. Three
cellphones were also located in
the backseat. Several deputies
arrived and set up a perimeter on
Hwy 41 S and 1-475 S. Cpl. Wade
Kendrick deployed K9 Rocky to
conduct a search for the driver in
the wood line on the southbound
side of the interstate.
After several minutes Rocky
tracked the suspect into an open
field with a cellphone in his hand
but due to low visibility and high
grass, Kendrick was unable to
release the dog and the man took
off again ignoring Kendricks
commands to stop. A drone was
used to find him but was unsuc
cessful and after several hours the
search was called off.
Warrants were obtained against
the man for fleeing, 2 charges
of obstruction, possession of
a firearm by a convicted felon,
possession of a firearm during
commission of a felony, distribut
ing marijuana and several other
traffic citations. Warrants were
obtained against the passen
ger for distributing marijuana,
possession of firearm during
commission of a felony, and
possession of a firearm by felon
first offender. The passenger later
told Haskins he was just getting a
ride from Union Hill Apartments
to Hartley Bridge Road and did
not know there was a firearm or
marijuana in the vehicle.
Monroe deputy assists Lamar
County in burglary arrest
A Griffin man and woman
are facing burglary and narcotic
charges after deputy Justyn Weav
er spotted their abandoned 2007
Honda in Lamar County on Van
Buren Road near Johnstonville
Road on Aug. 24 around 5 a.m.
Weaver found the black Honda
Civic parked unoccupied on
the right shoulder and partially
in the road. Dispatch said the
vehicle had no valid insurance,
so Weaver requested a Lamar
County deputy to remove the car.
While waiting for the deputy,
Weaver found a purse on the
passenger side floorboard with
credit cards and a driver’s license
belonging to the Honda’s owner,
a 49-year-old woman. He also
found a green backpack in the
back seat containing three mo
tion picture fake $100 bills, mis
cellaneous tools, and a medica
tion bottle containing pink pills,
several clear bags of suspected
methamphetamine, and a wallet.
Inside the wallet was a Georgia
driver’s license that belonging to
a 52-year-old man. Dispatch said
the man was wanted for a parole
violation with an original charge
ofburglary.
Sgt. Suanders of Lamar County
arrived, and Weaver turned
over the evidence and as they
were leaving, Weaver noticed a
normally locked wooden door
standing open with a broken lock
at an unmarked Johnstonville
Road property close to the Lamar
County Lire Station #4. No one
was found inside but bags of
items were found.
Weaver then approached the
fire station and found a woman
hiding behind the large bush
at the front of the building. He
immediately pulled his pistol and
ordered her to come out, and at
her refusal Weaver holstered his
weapon, grabbed her shirt, and
pulled her out. After she was
handcuffed, several white latex
gloves were found in her back
pockets. She denied knowing
anything about a burglary but
admitted the bags on the porch
came from her car. She said her
boyfriend told her to run while
they were hiding in the wooden
building. The area was searched
but he was not found. Both have
been charged with burglary and
narcotic offenses.

18-wheeler knocks over light
pole on Tift College Drive
Cpl. Kimberly Barnett respond
ed to a call on Sept. 7 regarding
the report of an 18-wheeler run
ning over a light pole on Tiff Col
lege Drive at Bennett Street and
found the pole bent over, broken
and with wires pulled from the
ground. There was also a yellow
concrete pole that belongs to
Ingram Properties laying on the
ground.
The 34-year-old driver of a 2020
Lreightliner registered to DG
Logistics told Barnett that this
was his first time delivering to
this Dollar General store and he
was instructed to enter from Tiff
College Drive. He said he tried
to swing in wide but was unable
to clear the light pole with the
rear of the trailer he was pulling.
Barnett told him he could try to
enter from East Main Street next
time. She provided him with a
case number and explained that
the City of Lorsyth and Ingram
Properties would be in contact
with his company in reference to
the property damage.
Drunk driver parks in middle
of road, flees on foot
Numerous charges were filed
against the driver of a 2022 Chev
rolet Tahoe on Sept. 8 by Sgt.
Kevin Williams after he spotted
the full-sized SUV with three oc
cupants following too closely and
failing to maintain lane near the
weigh station on 1-75 N.
After Williams initiated the stop,
the male driver slowly merged into
the emergency lane and began
throwing small pieces of what
appeared to be cellophane out
the window but never came to a
complete stop. Suddenly, the Tahoe
accelerated rapidly and merged
back onto the interstate. Williams
then informed dispatch that he was
