By Will Davis publisher™ mymcr.net A prison inmate on a work detail with the Forsyth street depart ment was captured in Alabama on Monday after crashing the city truck he stole to escape. Robert Jenkins, 42, of Columbus had just begun his latest prison sentence at the Bur- russ facility in Forsyth for drug and weapons charges in May. Inv. Terrance Thomas of the Forsyth Police Department said there was a prison guard assigned to the work detail. Thomas said they were having lunch at the city barn when Jenkins went toward the restroom, then jumped into one of the street department’s F-150s and sped away. (Photo/Mark Wooley) Paralegal charged with lying, pretending to be lawyer A Barnesville paralegal with a criminal history has been charged with pretending to be a lawyer and telling a High Falls girl she would have to go to a group home if she testi fied against her mother at trial. Johnny Eugene Harris, 55, of 121 Academy Drive, Barnesville was charged with unauthorized practice of law, making false statements in government matters, and influencing a witness last Tuesday, Sept. 20. Harris was a paralegal for Zebulon attorney David Brisendine, but they reportedly parted ways in January 2022. The warrants say Harris knowingly engaged in mis leading conduct by present ing himself as an attorney and interviewing a juvenile, without the permission of her legal counsel, and attempting to influence her testimony in the trial of the girl’s mother. Harris is also accused of pretending to be an attorney for Wayne Dawley, the brother of C.J. Dawley, in his case. C.J. was tried for child molestation in Monroe County in July. C.J. Dawley was found not guilty on 10 of 11 counts in that trial but was sentenced to 10 years in prison for one charge of cruelty to children. (Comer Towing) By Will Davis publisher@mymcr.net A man who fled from Monroe County authorities in a wild chase on Friday night was found the next day in a ditch on Collier Road with scratches and wounds all over his naked body, wearing only a lone sock. Monroe County deputy Joshua Warren said the suspect first caught his attention Friday night around 9:30 p.m. when he saw him driving erratically in a Cadillac sedan on 1-75 north. Here’s what happened accord ing to Warren: Warren pulled him over and he stopped on the shoulder. Warren approached pointing his flashlight and saw he had no shirt on, and then the suspect took off. He used the turnaround at the split of 1-75 and then sped south toward Forsyth. He passed the off ramp at the Hwy. 42 exit and then took his Cadillac down a steep bank, nose diving into the ditch at Hwy. 42 and Collier Road. The driver lost a headlight lamp from the impact but was able to keep going.
