INCIDENT REPORTS . October 5, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Slow poke driver results
in stolen weapon arrest
A 31-year-old California man
was charged with bringing stolen
property into the state after an in
terstate traffic stop for driving too
slow in the fast lane. On Sept. 8.
Cpl. Jaleel Brown stopped a black
2022 Kia with two male occupants
and could smell marijuana as he
asked the driver for his license and
proof of insurance. Brown also
noticed flakes of marijuana on the
passengers black shirt.
The driver told Brown the car
belonged to a friend, and he
needed to call her to get the insur
ance information. He said they
were traveling from California on
their way to Miami to see friends.
The passenger said they were go
ing to Orlando to visit someone
having a baby.
Three small baggies contain
ing suspected marijuana were
found in the center console. In the
backseat, inside a small camou
flage bookbag was a silver and
black Smith and Wesson handgun
that was found to be stolen out
of Richmond City, Va. There was
also a large sum of cash in the
front pocket of the bookbag which
was collected for seizure. The
money was rubber banded up and
seemed to be in $1,000 incre
ments. The bookbag also reeked of
marijuana.
The passenger admitted that the
bookbag belonged to him and he
was arrested. The driver was cited
for violating the slow poke law.
Covington woman arrested
for possession of stolen gun
A stolen Glock pistol was
found in a silver 2005 Toyota
Corolla after a stop for speeding
on 1-75 South on Sept. 13 and a
20-year-old Covington woman
was arrested. Cpl. John Cochran
clocked the Corolla traveling well
over the speed limit.
Cochran stopped the vehicle at
milepost 189 and while speaking
with the male driver and female
passenger he could smell the
odor of raw and burnt marijuana
emitting from the vehicle. After
citing the driver for speeding,
Cochran asked him to step out
of the car and go to the rear. He
asked the driver about the mari
juana smell and the driver replied
that they had smoked before they
had left the house. He denied that
there was any contraband in his
car.
A Glock 19 was found under
the passenger seat which was sto
len. The passenger told Cochran
that her father had given it to
her. She was told that it had been
reported stolen and was arrested
for receiving stolen property.
Baby's daddy slapped in jail
for slapping baby's mama
A Forsyth Gardens Apartments
man was jailed on Sept. 18 after he
was charged with simple battery.
Officers Richard Maddox and Mc-
Cune responded to a call regarding
a man beating a woman and the
victim told him her baby’s daddy
had started playing with her then
suddenly snapped, striking her
several times in the face. She said
he then got over her, holding her
down and hitting her. Her face was
slightly swollen and reddened but
insisted she didn’t need medical
attention.
A witness said it looked as if the
man was playing with the woman,
but he then started hitting her face.
She said every time the woman
yelled “Call the police!” the man
would strike her again. The man
had left but the victim said she
thought he went to his mother’s
nearby apartment.
The officers found the man at his
mother’s home where he was ar
rested for battery and taken to the
Monroe County Jail.
Motorcycle rider busted with
meth in his possession
Methamphetamine was found
on a Juliette motorcycle rider
after he was stopped by Inv. Ke-
meyan Colvard on Sept. 19 for
failing to signal on 1-75 S. The
35-year-old man took the Hwy.
18 exit after Colvard activated his
emergency lights and pulled into
the parking lot of the Circle K.
Colvard checked his license
and learned it was suspended
and that the bike had no insur
ance with cancelled registration.
After the driver was arrested
and handcuffed, suspected meth
was found in a clear plastic bag
inside a cigarette pack. He was
then taken to jail and charged
with driving without a license,
cancelled registration, no insur
ance coverage, and possession of
methamphetamine.
Man falling asleep
at wheel decides to run
Inv. Marc Mansfield saw a blue
Ford Fusion with a temporary tag
failing to maintain while traveling
west on Hwy. 18 near milepost 16
on Sept. 20 and the 38-year-old
male driver decided to flee. After
the Fusion nearly caused a colli
sion, Mansfield initiated a stop,
but the man continued driving for
anther two miles before stopping
partially in the road near Bobby
Floyd Road. The investigator radi
oed Cpl. Dalton Mosely for help.
As Mosely arrived with lights
and sirens activated, the driver
pulled back onto the road and
headed west towards Forsyth.
He was eventually stopped by
multiple units from the Monroe
County Sheriff’s Office with help
from the Forsyth Police Depart
ment. The driver told deputies he
knew he was falling asleep at the
wheel and acknowledged he was
crossing the center line multiple
times. He was cited for fleeing,
failure to maintain lane and failure
to signal.
Tire falls off while driving
due to untightened lug nuts
A female driver told deputy
Shania Hawkins around 6 a.m.
on Sept. 20 that she was driving
down Dames Ferry Road near
Abares Road when she started
hearing noises coming from the
front end of her 2005 Acura TSX
and that a wheel came completely
off. She told the deputy that she
got her tire changed at Economy
Tire on Mercer University Drive
in Macon and did not believe the
lug nuts were tightened correctly.
Comer Towing arrived and towed
her car to Pit Stop for repair.
Culloden woman reports be
ing followed on way to work
A Culloden woman told deputy
Shania Hawkins by phone on Sept.
21 that someone had been follow
ing her on the day before. She said
when she left for work and turned
onto Hwy. 74 going towards Bibb
County she noticed a gray pickup
truck, following too closely to her
and tried multiple times to let the
driver pass her, but they never
would.
The woman said when they got
to the two lanes on Hwy. 74, the
man went around her but stayed
right beside her, never passing.
When the woman got to the
County Line Store, she pulled in
and then got behind the truck
and got his tag number. Hawkins
learned the registered owner of the
truck was from Thomaston. The
woman said she wanted to make a
report in case she saw him again.
Woman pulls into weigh sta
tion for gas, jailed for weed
Over six ounces of marijuana
were found in the trunk of a 2012
Nissan Sentra on Sept. 21 after
the 21-year-old female driver
pulled into the southbound
weigh station on 1-75 thinking it
was a gas station. Deputy Justyn
Weaver was sitting near milepost
191 when he saw the Nissan enter
the weigh station. Weaver waited
for the car to pull through then
initiated a stop.
Weaver detected the slight odor
of raw marijuana when he ques-
