Open House for Cottages at Rocky Creek is Thurs.
By Diane Glidewell

The Brokery Builders are
ready to introduce Monroe
County’s first community
of tiny homes, The Cottages
at Rocky Creek. The unique
community at 2467 Smith
Road in northwest Monroe
County will host a ribbon
cutting and open house on
Thursday, Oct. 6. The ribbon
cutting will be at 11:30 a.m.
and tours and information
will be available until 7 p.m.
The upscale tiny homes
will be available for rent
rather than sale. When
completed, the development
will include 12 separate
homes. On Oct. 6 pro
spective renters can tour
the homes, make bids for
monthly rent, lease a unit or
reserve a future unit. It will
also be possible to order a
tiny home to be built on the
owners property.
Monroe County commis
sioner/real estate developer
and broker George Emami
saw the need that he feels
this development can help
fill. It begins with the short
age of any type of rental
property in Monroe County.
Both as a commissioner and
as a real estate broker he
hears from people who want
their own place but don’t
need a lot of space and don’t
want a lot of maintenance
worries.
He found 10.5 acres off of
Smith Road, near John-
stonville Road that he could
envision filling the need
with tiny homes. He initially
planned for 20 homes but
compromised with some
wary neighbors and mem
bers of Planning & Zoning
at 12 homes.
“These homes are built
with the same quality
materials as bigger upscale

tioned the driver about why
she pulled into the station.
She stated that she thought
it was an exit and needed
gas. Weaver checked the
gas gauge and it showed the
vehicle had over a quarter
of a tank. She was asked to
step out.
As Weaver was writing a
warning for a headlamp vio
lation the woman told him
that she moved to Sandy
Springs in August and was
going to North Carolina.
The deputy then told her she
was going the wrong way
and she said that she was
going to Savannah first.
Weaver noted that there
was no luggage in the car
other than two bags of
marijuana weighing 6.20
ounces found in a suitcase
in the trunk. A Rugger
9mm Luger was also found
in the suitcase. The woman
was arrested and taken to
Monroe County Jail where
she was cited for a headlight
violation and use of a license
plate to conceal. A warrant
was taken against her for
marijuana possession
Handyman charged
A handyman was charged
with theft by taking after a
woman told deputy Dustin
Ramsey on Sept. 22 that
she had used the man on
multiple projects with no
issues but recently gave him
$8,450 to purchase supplies
to fence in her yard.
She said he never bought
the materials and gave her
reasons such as family be
ing sick or in the hospital.
Soon after he ceased to
respond so Ramsey filed
the warrant.
Driver admits drinking
3 beers as goes to jail
Deputy Joshua Warren was
driving behind a gold 1999
Toyota Corolla on Johnston-
ville Road on Sept. 23 and
after seeing it failing to main
tain lane and following too
closely, he made a stop at the
Marathon Gas Station. After
failing a sobriety test, the
female driver was arrested.
The woman told War
ren she had been drinking
and when asked how many
drinks she had consumed,
she told him three beers.
She registered high on the
portable breath test and was
arrested. She was taken to jail
and charged with DUI and
cited for following too closely
and failure to maintain lane.
Hester Road man:
woman stole gas can
Deputy Matthew Sam
mons was dispatched to a
Hester Road home on Sept.
24 where a man told him
that a woman wearing a
white tank top and black
leggings was carrying a
plastic trash can when she
approached him and his
girlfriend.
The woman asked to bor
row a phone and he gave
her his. After she called the
number, she asked for some
thing to drink and a phone
charger.
The man gave her a drink
but not a charger and the
woman began cursing at
them. He asked her to leave
his property and he thought
she did.
A few seconds later he
went to check to see if she
was gone and found her be
hind his house near a shed.
He again told her to leave,
and she began walking car
rying her trashcan towards
Juliette Road. He told Sam
mons he looked around his
property to see if anything
was missing and noticed that
his 2.5-gallon gas can which
homes,” said Emami.
That includes concrete
base siding, granite coun
tertops and stainless steel
appliances. He estimates
rent will be about $800-900/
month, including lawn care,
water and garbage pickup.
The utility bills should be
minimal for the small dwell
ings. Emami said that people
who select a tiny home do so
because it fits their lifestyle,
giving them both free
dom to travel and become
involved in activities away
from their home and extra
money to do so.
With the first three homes
was full of fuel was missing.
He estimated the can to be
worth $50. He said he did
not know the woman but
was able to take pictures of
her which were attached to
the report.
