W hat if I told you
that your home
can be exactly
what you want
it to be, without moving and
without getting rid of all of your
heirloom furniture?
So many of us have been
“gifted” or passed down family
treasures that don’t really fit into
our modern lifestyle and design
preferences. I am here to tell you
that it is possible to have a home
that is you and keep the furniture
that means so much.
My client had so many beautiful
antique pieces, but didn’t know
how or where to put them. Let
me reassure you- if you don’t
know how to arrange your furni
ture or you are overwhelmed by
what to put where, you are nor
mal! It takes a well trained design
eye and an outside perspective to
find the best layout.
When my team and I do a full
house renovation, everything
comes out. Then we address each
space and fit everything back in.
In this case, some furniture was
painted, others had seats reuphol
stered, and some was left exactly
as it was, but found a new loca
tion that showcased its beauty.
Redesigning a home is about
finding you and your style. It
requires an open mind for things
to be reworked, let go, and made
better than you thought possible.
At some point in every project I
tell my client “trust me and the
process, it will all come together.”
Getting to know my clients,
their stories and family history is
what makes each design unique.
With this particular project, the
shell of the house was updated
to include rich brown hardwood
floors, bright white walls, a re

designed fireplace in marble and
new lighting.
The color palette is one of
soothing blues, brown, brass and
the occasional pop of velvet. Your
home should bring you joy with
all of the colors that you see. Dark
houses with builder beige walls,
subliminal lighting and outdated
countertops don’t create an envi
ronment of happiness.
Now, I am not saying that
brown is bad, but completely the
opposite. When colors and fin
ishes are haphazardly put in, they
aren’t cohesive and it becomes
a house of brown. And when
people build a home they pick the
safe color. Brown. Everywhere.
Don’t be afraid of making your
home light, bright and happy. At
the reveal of my clients home,
they were so surprised at what
their house could be. After de
cades of living in the same space,
it was now revitalized into a new
beautiful space that reflected who
they are now, while paying hom
age to their heritage.
Credenzas that had been hid
den in a corner were now in the
spot light, and chairs that had
seen their day got a new life with
black lacquer and velvet seats.
A lot of us didn’t get the home
we wanted during the latest
housing craze. But a new house
isn’t always what you need to be
happy with your home. It may
be that you need someone with
a vision to bring new life to your
space and find your identity
within the walls you already call
home.
