Mary Persons-Jackson
game pulls the
community together
M y name is
Kate Nelson,
and I am an
8th grader at
Monroe County Middle
School. Our Mary Persons
Bulldogs are going head
to head against our rival,
Jackson, this Friday on Oct.
7th. This is my favorite
game of the year because
it’s our rival, and both
teams come to redeem
themselves from the year
before.
The Bulldogs won last
year at the very last minute,
which was the best thing
ever. The rest of the Nelson
household are also ready
for this game, especially my
brother because he is the
one actually on the field
this year. I am sure that
everyone else in this town
is so ready for this game. I
can’t even begin to imagine
how full our side of the
stands is going to be this
Friday.
Usually the week of our
biggest game of the year is
crazy, everyone in my fam
ily is ready for this game
to get over with, but the
excitement rises because
it’s the biggest game of the
year, meaning it is going
to be very eventful. The
best part of these games is
watching my dad, see
ing him when we score,
watching him jump up and
down, and watching him
rim along the field being
proud of all his players.
The players are also ready
for this game, putting in
such hard work to do their
best, and getting excited
throughout the week. The
varsity cheerleaders work
very hard throughout the
week to create the best sign
possible for this game, and
show the most spirit ever.
You know it’s going to be
good when the football
players come busting
through that sign, watch
ing all the coaches running
with them, all with smiles
of determination on their
faces.
I can’t even begin to
think how many times the
coaches and players watch
film to see how they can
get past the other team.
The football players and
coaches stay later than they
do in a normal week just
to get in the extra practice.
By the end of the week all
the coaches and players are
drained and just ready to
catch up on their sleep.
Everyone in this town,
including my family and I,
are so ready for this game—
the suspense and everyone
on their feet the whole
game ready for a big play to
happen or for us to score.

Fall winds

Dress-up days inspire creativity
By Marlee Berlin
My favorite week of school by far
is the colorful costumes that come
to the surface during Homecoming
Week and the excitement of wear
ing weird outfits all week to fit the
category of the day.
Not to brag, but I am known for
my elaborate outfits that are any
thing but normal. Let’s start with
Monday, Broadway Day. Now my
original plan was to dress up but
sadly my costume would not get to
me in time. This caused me to go to
plan B which was where my Mean
Girls shirt came into play. I was
quite surprised by the lack of people
dressing up for Broadway Day. I saw
maybe two or three people dress up
as an actual Broadway Character.
Tuesday was Beach Day. Now
don’t get me wrong, I love beach day,
it’s a classic. We have this tropical
theme every year. It is the one theme
you know you’ll see once again next
year. Although I do think it would
be nice to add a new theme perhaps.
Anyways, pretty much the entire
8th grade class dressed up. I wore
a Hawaiian shirt with swim trunks
and a yellow lei. Even though I think
we should introduce a new theme, I
could be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy
dressing up for Beach Day.
Wednesday was Decade Day,
which was definitely one of my
favorites. Now you obviously have
your classics like the 60s with the
hippies or the 80s, but I wanted to
do something different. I decided to
do the roaring 20’s. It was definitely
one of my favorites because no one
was wearing the same decade I was.
Thursday was by far my favorite of
all the days, celebrity day. My best
friend and I decided to do some
thing different. We ended up being
Queen Elizabeth and King George.
It was quite funny walking around
all day with everyone staring at us
but I see it as a thing of taste. Clearly
we look cool enough for everyone to
stare. We even brought tea to drink
at lunch along with scones. It was
quite the event. Thursday was a day I
will never forget.
Friday was the day it always is,
black and gold. This is the one day
where I believe everyone at the
school actually dresses up. The
entire school is radiating with school
spirit down the halls, into the lunch
room, and out the door. It is a great
way to end such an amazing week.
Homecoming week is packed with activities
By Sadie Dutton
Homecoming week this year was
really fun at the middle school.
There were several really fun dress
up days, a pep rally, and football.
Everyone had so much fun.
First, there were so many fun
dress up days. Monday was New
York Broadway day, Tuesday was
beach day, Wednesday was decades
day, Thursday was picture day and
celebrity day, and Friday was black
and gold day. Several people partici
pated during the dress up days, and
everyone looked amazing.
My favorite dress up day was either
decades day or black and gold day.
Those are the two I participated in.
Some people dressed up as people
from the 90s, 80s, 70s, and even as
far back as the 1920’s! On Thursday,
some people chose to wear normal
outfits for picture day, while others
chose to dress up like their favorite
celebrity. Friday was really fun due
to all the school spirit, the pep rally,
and the football game. Most people
had black and gold shirts, jewelry,
face paint, or makeup on. The dress
up days were really fun.
The next fun event of homecoming
week at the middle school was the
pep rally. The band and auxiliary did
a great job with their music, stand
times and dance
routines. I have
several friends
in the band and
auxiliary that
did awesome
as well. The
cheerleaders did
an amazing job
with their rou
tines, stunts and
cheers. Every
thing was very
entertaining and
fun to watch and
cheer for.
We got to see
almost all of the
sports teams,
such as football,
cross country,
and softball.
Everyone on
those teams was
announced and cheered. My friend
and I cheered the whole time from
the bleachers. It was an enjoyable
hour filled with school spirit.
The last major events were, of
course, the parade Thursday evening
and the football game Friday night.
The parade went well. The JROTC,
cheerleaders, the band, and the aux
iliary were there. There were several
different groups to get Forsyth ready
Musical Day are Ms. Elton, DeVane,
for the football game. The game
went well, and Mary Persons won. It
was a great game and a fun night for
everyone.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed
homecoming week. Everyone else
enjoyed it as well. The middle school
had a great time dressing up and
the pep rally, parade and game went
very well.

It’s finally Fall, y’all
By Carli Davis
The whirling wind howls on an Octo
ber day
Lots of kids with jackets are out to play
Colorful leaves fall off the trees
With even the slightest little breeze
As the temperature starts to drop
All the farmers harvest their crop
Pumpkin, apple, and cherry pie
Oh my!
Friends and family gather over food
The cozy feeling sets the mood
As the days fall shorter and the night
grows longer
The season of fall gets stronger and
stronger
The holidays are approaching and I’m
quite delighted
All of these changes make me quite
excited
I can’t beLEAF it y’all
IT'S FINALLY FALL!

Homecoming week at
Monroe County Middle
School was one of the
best weeks of the school
year in my opinion. There
are kids dressed up in
costumes and they have
a ton of fun with it. The
2022 school year had
different options than the
year before.
Monday was Favorite
Broadway Musical Day.
That day most people
didn't dress up as any
thing because most
people don't watch musi
cals anymore.
Tuesday was Panama
City Beach Day. Tuesday
was very, very colorful.
There were
tons of
students
wearing
button
downs and
hula- danc
ing flowers
around
their necks.
Wednes
day was
Favorite
Decade
Day. Most
people
dressed up
for their
favorite
decade,
but oth
ers dressed up in their
football jerseys, because
it is game day.
Thursday was
Favorite Ce
lebrity Day.
Most people
dressed up for
picture day, but
I dressed up as
my favorite ce
leb, Tom Cruise.
Friday was
Show Your
Bulldog Pride
Day. Most
people dressed
up in Black and
Gold or in their
MP sportswear.
So far that
week was the
best week in the
school year.

Get ready hr Fall
By Kennedy Lumley
Leaves. Leaves. More leaves! Guess
what time it is?
Fall is the best time of the year. The
cool weather, pumpkin spice, cinna
mon, and my personal favorite; long
sleeve shirts!
School is canceled for a whole week to
get ready for fall break, which is a great
time for families to go on a vacation and
take advantage of the cold. Athletes are
now playing fall sports, and now is the
perfect time to relax while you watch a
fun game of one of the many sports the
Monroe County Middle School has to
offer.
I think everyone noticed that it has
been getting a lot cooler than normal,
so pull your scarves and sweaters out of
the closet and get your blankets ready!
Fall has a lot to give us this season, and
now is the best time to start enjoying it.
