Cheer Dogs take 1st
By Dana Morris
dana.h.morris 1010@gmail.com
On Saturday, Oct. 20, the
Mary Persons varsity com
petition team had another
first-place finish at the
Northgate Cheer Classic at
Northgate High School in
Newnan. The team scored
a strong 90.5. Going into
the competition, Mary
Persons was ranked second
in the state for average
competition score when
compared to the other all
girl 3A varsity competition
cheerleading teams.
The team’s tumbling
portion was very consistent
and clean. It is thrilling
to watch the fast pace that
the girls execute with such
high levels of running
tumbling and do it so well.
The primary stunt and sec
ondary stunt had their best
executions of the season.
The cheer, jumps, and
dance portions of the
routine were strong.
Crowd participa
tion really helped the
cheer portion stand
out. The dance por
tion looked clean, and
it was full of energy.
The pyramid por
tion of the routine
had two big mistakes
that will be addressed
at this week’s prac
tices. The goal is to
have the pyramid
portion as strong as
the other components
of the routine. The
coaches and team are
still working towards
better execution and
that comes from strong and
consistent practices.
The team has their next
competition this Saturday,
Oct. 29 at Union Grove
High School in Mc-
Donough. After that, the
team has their region com
petition at Morgan County
High School on Saturday,
Nov. 5.
