Look for kids from all
over Middle Georgia to
gather at The Rose Theater
to find out why The Big
Bad Wolf doesn't want to
be bad anymore. From
Nov. 3-10 The Children's
Theater Troupe (CTT)
will perform “Once Upon
A Wolf’ The CTT is a
group of local adult actors
that want to introduce
live theater experiences to
children.
The story is a collec
tion of fractured fairy
tales that must change
when the Wolf decides
that he doesn't want to be
the villain. Old Granny
Stinkyfeet will try to help
the confused wolf while
sharing her stories with the
audience.
Since 2011 the Children's
Theater Troupe has pro
duced shows for children's
groups in the area. Each fall
pre-school through third
grade students have arrived
from Monroe, Jones, Bibb,
Butts, Crawford and Lamar
Counties to enjoy a live
theater performance.
After-school groups from
local churches attend an af
ternoon performance. Sev
eral special needs classes
are invited to join us at the
theater for a show as well.
The public is invited to
attend as seating is avail
able for many performanc
es. Please contact backlot-

help children build self

handle bullies, recycle and
care for the earth, care for
others, work together, learn
about theater etiquette and
be informed about what it
takes to produce a show.
The cast and crew will
perform several shows dai

This year there are reserva

over 1,800 students, teach

The cast of “ Once
Upon a Wolf” includes
Debra Moore, Rick Kmitta,
Theresa Daniel, Meredith
Adams, Joe Reed, Sara
Reed and Jane Walker; the
show is directed by Abbie
Bunn. Elizabeth Hunter is
in charge of lights/sound,
and sponsors for this show

Sandra Lee. A donation
was also made by Me
lissa and Chuck Randall in
memory of the first Granny
StinkyFeet, the late Judy
Hunter.
Each year many Backlot
volunteers have helped get
the crowds of children in
and out of the theater. It
takes many helpers in front
of scenes and backstage to
have a successful show at
the Rose! CTT is thankful
for these volunteers: Sandra
Lee, Rhett McMurray,
Connie Copelan, Sherill
McLeod, Judy Sigurdsson,
Joan Cooper, Kim Pitman,
Kim Ducheneau, Abbie
Bunn, Chuck Randall,
Marcia Porcelli and Sharon
Goodwin.
Don’t miss this tongue-
in-cheek retelling of several
fairy tales where the wolf
is on a mission to become
a hero - no matter how
many people tell him it’s
impossible. “Once Upon a
Wolf” is for children and
adults alike; it is full of wit
and quick lines that every
one will enjoy.

Diamond Dog season ends in Round 2 of state playoffs

The Mary Persons Soft-
ball squad capped off their
regular season 10-15 with
an 8-4 loss to Eagles Land
ing Christian Academy
on Oct. 11. The MP squad
finished 6-6 in region and
stood at the #3 spot in the
3A Region, clinching their
placement well before the
finishing matchups of the
season.
On Oct. 20, the 2022
GHSA Fastpitch Softball
Super Regionals began for
the hopeful varsity team
with a neutral-region
game seeing Mary Persons
Bulldogs taking on the St.
Vincent’s Saints. The Saints
finished the regular season
5-1, placing 4th in the Re
gion 3-AAA. The Bulldogs
showed out in an 11-2 win.
Against the Saints, MP’s
scoring took off in the 5th
inning after a rocky start,
and the Dogs were able to
withstand an impressive
Saints 6th inning to rally to
victory.
Later that day, the
Bulldogs faced off against
Columbus (19-11) looking
to advance further into the
state tournament. Unfor
tunately, the Blue Devils
were able to take the team
down in a very close 8-7
final score. MP started off
strong within the first 5
innings but were unable to
score any points past the
7th, as Columbus con
tinued putting up points
and eventually won in an
incredibly tense matchup.
MP had one more chance
for victory as they traveled
to Harlem, Ga„ to face off
against the Devils once
more the next day but were
taken down in another in
credibly close 5-4 loss that
ultimately put their season
away for good.
MP’s Varsity Softball year
is now officially over, but
they had a lot of statistical
accomplishments in their
first season under new
coach Jessica Evans. The
team finished with a 7-5

The MP Varsity Volleyball season ended last week in the
playoffs but not before the Lady Dogs enjoyed one of their
best seasons in years at 17-9 under first-year coach Han
nah Grossmen.
The Lady Dogs had ended the regular season with a 3-0
loss to Jackson, moving their final regular season record
to 16-8. Shortly after the end of the local region tourna
ment, the official GHSA Volleyball State Championship
playoffs began, with MPs’ Volley Dogs first facing up
against the now 4-9 Carver Tigers in the first round of the
3A Region class on Oct. 18. MP dominated in the game,
limiting the hard fighting Tigers to 0 points and scoring 3
in a terrific 3-0 sweep victory as they crushed their oppo
nents. The game saw a non-league matchup in a neutral
location.
With this dominant win, the Bulldogs’ record improved
to 17-8, and MP was now able to put it on the line as
they went to Savannah Christian High School on Oct.
22, looking forward to a non-region matchup against
the Raiders. Unfortunately, MP was defeated 0-3 in a
dominant Raiders win, ending the team’s playoff run and
ultimately their season for good. In each set of the match,
MP put up a good fight statistically, but each time they
ended up falling in comparison to the Raiders’ terrific
scoring.
The Mary Persons Varsity Volleyball season is now over
for good, but the team was incredibly successful this year.
Their final regular season record of 16-8 and their final
record of 17-9 saw them sit atop the 3A Region 2 stand
ings. Their within-region record of 6-3 saw them plac
ing #2 in the conference, only under the within-region,
undefeated 9-0 Jackson.
The Volley Dogs finished their regular season within-
region games with a win rate of 67%, and, within those
games, won 12 sets and lost 8 overall. MP’s overall record,
counting out-of-conference matchups, finished with a win
rate of 65%. Throughout the entire season, they won 40
sets and lost 26. Their regular season ended with a 1 game
losing streak after a 4 game winning streak.
Congrats to the team on a terrific season!
