INCIDENT REPORTS • November 2,2022
Thefollowing incidents were reported bythe Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
DUI charge for Jackson man
A 32-year-old man Jackson
man was jailed on several charges
including DUI on Sept. 18. Cpl.
John Cochran said the driver
was speeding and driving on
the wrong side of the road. The
man admitted to having a “few”
beers at a friends house as they
watched the football game and
agreed to take the test.
After failing the test miserably,
he was charged with DUI, failure
to change address on license,
seatbelt violation, and driving on
the wrong side of the road. He
was turned over to jail staff.
Pistol pulled in
road rage incident
A 24-year-old Fort Valley man
driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse
was stopped by deputy Hannah
Hile on Sept 29 after a report
from Butts County that the man
had waved a gun. Hile spotted the
mans car near North Lee Street
traveling south on 1-75 and made
the stop.
The driver said there was a
Taurus pistol beneath the drivers
seat where it was found loaded by
Sgt. Thomas Haskins.
The man explained the events
that led to the gun being pulled
due to road rage. He said that
the firearm was flashed at the
complainant for intimidation
purposes and that it happened in
south Butts County.
The complainants filed state
ments which were forwarded to
Butts County who advised not
to take the man into custody
because they didn’t have the
resources to transport him.
Tennessee felon
goes to jail for pistol
A convicted felon from Signal
Mountain, Tenn. went to jail on
Oct. 16 for possessing a firearm
and speeding after a traffic stop.
Cpl. Larry Sullivan and deputy
Jason O’Steen clocked the man
doing 88 mph in a 2021 Chev
rolet Suburban on 1-75 N and
made the stop near the weigh
station. The deputies could smell
marijuana as they approached the
SUV and asked the 51-year-old
man for his license.
The driver said that he was a
“private citizen” and did not carry
a license. He said he had turned
in his license long ago and that
Sullivan need to contact the Sec
retary of State and handed him a
passport. It was explained to the
man that a driver’s license was
required in the state of Georgia.
The man again stated that one
was not required for him to oper
ate a vehicle as he was a “private
citizen”.
He repeated that the deputies
needed to call the Secretary of
State and confirm that he is on
the “do not detain list”.
It was learned that his license
was expired by Florida in 2011.
The smell of marijuana was
strong, and he was asked if he
had smoked recently. He re
plied that he had not smoked
marijuana and did not have any.
When he was told his files came
back as him being unlicensed, he
then said he had a valid driver’s
license in the center console.
Sullivan then found a Tennessee
driver’s license as well as a Florida
ID card.
A Glock 43 9mm handgun was
found on the driver’s side of the
center console within the im
mediate reach of the driver. A
suitcase was found locked with a
combination.
The man said he didn’t know
combination and wanted a
lawyer. The suitcase was cut
open carefully and although the
odor of marijuana was present,
none was found. The driver was
taken to the Monroe County Jail
for possession of a firearm by
a convicted felon and cited for
speeding. The vehicle was towed
by Forsyth Wrecker service and
the firearm was turned in as
evidence.
Wife in jail after hitting hus
band on head with flashlight
A man was injured after his
wife hit him on the head with
a flashlight on Oct. 17. Deputy
Brian Horvath was dispatched to
a home on Jeffery Way where he
found a 51-year-old man stand
ing in the front yard holding a
towel to his head. He had blood
on the right side of his face and
chin and the towel was blood
stained.
He told Horvath that he came
home, turned the lights on and
asked his wife for his money
which started an argument and
that she struck him in the top
right side of his head with a flash
light. In defense he pushed her in
the chest and went outside.
Horvath went to the home
where he saw blood on the front
porch, living room and kitchen.
He asked the wife what had
happened, and she replied her
husband came into the house and
turned the lights and that started
an argument.
She said he became angry and
came behind her, placed his
arm around her neck and began
to choke her. At that time, she
grabbed a flashlight and hit him
over the head. He let her go and
went outside. The deputy saw no
marks on or near the woman’s
neck.
The wife was determined to be
the primary aggressor and was
handcuffed behind her back. She
received a warrant for battery-
family violence.
Woman goes to jail after
punching roommate
A Cabiness Road woman told
Cpl. Kimberly Barnett on Oct.
17 that she had a dispute with
her female roommate who then
ran at her and punched her in
the mouth. She told the corporal

it was her apartment, and she
wanted the woman to move out.
She said when the woman ran at
her she believed she was going
to be hit so she pushed her back
and that’s when she was hit in the
face. She then grabbed her child,
walked away and called 911.
The roommate told Barnett
she did charge at the woman but
not to hurt her, she was trying to
make a point to her. She said after
she was shoved, she shoved back.
This went on for several minutes
until she had pushed her out of
the apartment. That is when she
struck her in the face.
Barnett arrested the roommate
who complained that the other
woman had pushed her first.
Barnett explained that she was
allowed to protect herself and her
child and then took her to the
Monroe County Jail with a bat
tery charge.
Brother accuses sister
of child neglect
A Forsyth man told Cpl. Dalton
Mosely in the sheriff’s lobby on
Oct. 18 that his sister was neglect
ing her son, only giving him two
slices of bread per day to eat. He
said another time, she sent her
son outside in the front yard for
hours. He added that he had
previously made a report and
DEFACS came out, but nothing
was done.
The man said his sister has a
bad pill problem and spends a
few hundred dollars a week on
pills while she’s pregnant and has
yet to get any care for her preg
nancy because she is afraid that
she will be drug tested.
The man also said the boy has
