Bolingbroke volunteers pickup 40+ bags of trash
By Sloan Oliver
sloanoliver@earthlink.net
L ast Saturday Boling
broke had its fall cleanup.
Organized by the Boling
broke Community Club
(BCC); about 20 people showed
up at Mount Zion Baptist
Church to help pick up
litter and show their civic
pride.
Sloan Oliver broke
the roads in and around
Bolingbroke into man
ageable sections and
designated from two
to six people for each
section depending
Cutting Edge sent a crew of
six with two vehicles. They
picked up 14 bags of trash
along Hwy 41 mostly around
the 1-475 interchange and
the On/Off ramps. A crew
from the Bolingbroke Downs
and Riverside Plantation
subdivisions picked
up 14 bags (and an
old vacuum cleaner)
on Klopfer Road, the
majority of which was
under the 1-75 bridge.
The remainder of the
cleanup com-
. * rr\ G mittee picked
MwMAfWk Ci-luJWV up at least 18
bags of trash, a
on the amount of trash visible and
length of road to be policed. After
receiving their marching orders
and receiving a blessing from Pas
tor Andy Oxford, the cleanup crew
was turned loose on the litter.
Trash is like an iceberg, there is
always much more litter below the
surface (i.e. hidden by the grass
or down in the ditch) than what’s
visible when driving by. That was
certainly the case with the Boling
broke cleanup crew. Over 40 bags
of trash were collected along Hwy
41, Rivoli Road, and Klopfer Road.

Christmas is coming & Bolingbroke is getting ready
By Sloan Oliver
sloanoliver@earthlink.net
C all me old-
fashioned, but
shouldn’t Thanks
giving (or at least
Halloween) be over before
we start the Christmas
season? Beginning shortly
after Labor Day, all the
retail stores start preparing
for Christmas.
Turns out, Bolingbroke
is much the same - busi
nesses start preparing for
Christmas long before
Thanksgiving. You re
ally can’t blame them for
doing so because, to be
ready for the holiday rush
that kicks into high gear
the day after Thanksgiv
ing, retail establishments
must prepare months in
advance. Anyone looking
for quaint shops, antiques,
home decor and specialty
products such as meat and
wood furniture, pay a visit
to Bolingbroke.
Here’s some of what
Bolingbroke businesses are
doing for the Christmas
season:
Donny’s Propane does
just about anything with
propane (install, home
delivery, etc.) to include
higher end, reasonably
priced gas grills by Broil-
master and Blaze. The grills
are nice looking. Hours are
M-F 8-5.
Henrys of Bolingbroke
is a quaint antique and gift
shop on Hwy 41 - the Dixie
Highway. Henry’s carries
antiques; home decor of
frames, pictures, paintings,
and lamps; seasonal gifts;
seasonal wreaths; Annie
Sloan chalk paint; cloth
ing accessory items, and
small furniture. For you
guys/husbands, Henry’s
has gift certificates. Also,
they have a “wish list” so
that the ladies can write
down the items they would
like (and can’t do without).
Then, husbands can go in
and buy those items. Don’t
worry about wrapping, the
ladies at Henry’s do excel
lent gift wrapping. Henry’s
is having its Christmas
Open House on Nov. 4-5
with light refreshments,
snacks and door prizes.
Henry’s hours are Tue-Sat
10- 5, closed Sunday and
Monday.
Marrow 41 Restaurant,
on Estes Road behind the
bank, is a great addition
to Bolingbroke. It features
Blanche Farms Meats,
chef specials, and specialty
cocktails. Marrow 41 is
now open for lunch Tue-Fri
11- 2, Sunday Brunch 11-2,
dinner Tues-Thurs 5-9
p.m„ and Friday/Saturdays
until 9:30. Weather permit
ting, enjoy music on the
deck from 7-9. Marrow
changes its menu with the
seasons. Stop in and check
out the new menu. Try the
Maple & Apple Cider Old
Fashion and let me know
how it tastes.
Tommy Campbell’s Col
lision (Isaiah 41:10) wishes
everyone a Merry Christ
mas, happy Hanukkah and
safe holidays. Drive safe,
arrive alive but should you
have an accident, give them
a call.
Enjoy shopping and
eating in Bolingbroke.
Remember, Bolingbroke’s
Christmas Parade is Dec 10
at 11a.m.
