Be grateful for amazing people
& opportunities at Thanksgiving
By Kennedy Lumley
hanksgiving is a time for remi
niscing about everything you are
grateful for. This is a great time
to look back at all of the oppor
tunities, experiences, and people that you
have met, all while indulging in turkey
and green bean casserole!
I know a lot of us, including my fam
ily, are so busy with cleaning the house,
inviting people over, and cutting the ham
and turkey that we often forget about the
actual meaning of Thanksgiving. How
ever, this year I plan to go back and look
at the amazing parts of my life that have
been overlooked for so long.
One of the things that I need to appre
ciate is how many great opportunities
and experiences I have had with choir
and band. I love singing and playing my
saxophone, and I have been able to do so
much with it within the past year.
Another thing that I need to do is let
all of the amazing people in my life know
how much they mean to me and how
thankful I am to know them. They’ve
made such a huge difference, and I have
no idea what I could do without them.
Thanksgiving is the best time to recol
lect the opportunities and people that you
have met, and I know I have a lot to be
thankful about.
Thanksgiving
By Alexis Stilwell ^ ^
T-his is a time to give, appreciate, and welcome. We can’t forget about the turkey.
H-owever, it is also a time to show love and spend time with the people you love.
A-pples fill and cinnamon fill the air. As well as pumpkin spice and everything nice.
N-othing can compare to the feeling when you finally begin to see those colorful
autumn leaves falling.
K-ids and grandkids gather around the kitchen table admiring all the hard work
done on the food lying in front of them.
S-inging and dancing occurs and people are laughing and catching up with relatives
from far-away lands.
G-atherings with friends, family, and others are most cherished at this time of the
year.
I-cy winds gust about and gives everyone a slight goosebumps all over.
V-egitables are what most kids try not to grab, however their mothers always make
them try at least 1.
I-n my opinion, Thanksgiving is one of the most wonderful times of year.
N-o holiday is as welcoming as Thanksgiving. It will always be celebrated and loved.
G-ot to rim and finish this pumpkin pie. See you next year, Happy Thanksgiving
everyone!
Red Ribbon Week honors the fight
to keep youth safe from drugs
By Grayson Bellwin
It is important to bring
awareness to drugs and
alcohol at a young age. Red
Ribbon Week is a time to
do that.
It is the oldest and largest
drug prevention campaign
in the country, breaches
millions of young people
during October of each
year. The movement has
spread nationwide and
reaches over 600 schools.
The Red Ribbon Cam
paign was founded in
1985 after the murder of
DEA Agent Enrique 'Kiki'
Camarena. Enrigue had
dedicated his life to fighting
against drugs and keep
ing kids safe, but he was
abducted and murdered in
Mexico.
After his passing, families
started to come together
and form pacts to educate
the youth about the dan
gers of drugs and eventu
ally it united into the Red
Ribbon Campaign. So ev
ery year when Red Ribbon
Week comes around make
sure to honor Enrique
Camarena for giving the
ultimate sacrifice in order
to keep kids away from the
horrors of drugs.
Monroe County Middle
School celebrated Red
Ribbon October 25-29.
Students had a great time
celebrating.
Fall, The Best Season Of All
By Griffin Chapman
Fall is the best time of the year
It may be chilly but that is nothing to fear
For the beautiful leaves in the glorious
trees
Make my sadness disappear
As the birds begin their migration
And the bears prepare their hibernation
Even through all my stress from school
It gives me determination
Fall gave us Halloween
And allows me to enjoy a Thanksgiving
routine
Nothing can ever make me doubt
That the best thing in the world is fall
coming about
By Jordan Singleton
The fall air turns nice and crisp
You can tell that the season is fall
The men stay with the kids and watch thanksgiving football
While the women go black holiday shopping at the mall
The Fall season brings the holiday of halloween
With spooky mummies and jack-o’-terns glore
And all of this is great and all
But I just want more
The holiday of thanksgiving
Eating ham and yummy turkey
Some say fall isn’t the best season
But I think it is one hundred percent worthy
The Mlb fall classic
One of the best times of the year
You get into your PJ’s with hot chocolate
Snuggle under the covers and disappear
The putting up of the Christmas tree
one of the best family traditions
While the kids put the ornaments on the tree
The adults bake cookies in the kitchen
Christmas hallmark movies
Some of those include the grinch
So you don’t want to flinch
The saying is
Ghostbusters, who you wanna call
But in my humble opinion
Fall is most definitely the most wonderful season of all
Last leaf to fall
By Piper Roeser
Every day I stroll by
And can’t help but wonder why
Why you still stay
The last warm breeze blew
But still you clung, procrastinating the new
Holding onto your old view
With every breeze, you still cling
Taunting us with your unsteady swing
All the other leaves litter the ground
Until a bitter breeze flings them around
Many are bound for the roadside
Eventually they will collide
And fall prey to unforgiving cars
But what about the other bunch?
The other leaves lie beneath the trees
Awaiting the gentle breeze that dips and twirls
Guiding them in a graceful whirl
Soon the breeze lays them to rest
Maybe in a mother birds nest
Baby birds with eyes so round
Almost ready to leap and fly to the ground
So why haven't you fallen?
Are you scared of your true calling?
So you sit, still stalling
But why not leap with a purpose
Rather than fall, all limbs sprawling
From some perspectives, the outcome can look
steep
But I promise, from where I'm standing it looks
pretty sweet

Thanksgiving
By Ellie Taylor
This kitchen is filled
Hot with pies, turkey
And deserts.
Nothing is going to change the magical day. My friends
Kindly brought over some
Strawberry shortcakes and presents.
Giving is the best time of thanksgiving.
In my family we all give gifts.
Vegetables, deserts and the turkey are already
In the dining room waiting for my family to dig in.
Nana even came down this wonderful Thanksgiving.
Great times are shared with your family on this day.
Winter is on the way
By Marlee Berlin
T he bronze-shield
ed leaves falling
on the ice-lined
car windows can
only mean one thing, win
ter is on the way.
Maybe you're a summer
person and enjoy the sun
and long days. I hate to
burst your bubble, but
your opinion is wrong.
The months of October to
December are by far the
most extravagant months
of the year.
These months are filled
with joy and holidays like
Halloween, Thanksgiv
ing, and Christmas. The
beautiful trees change
from colors of green to the
spice-colored palette of
oranges and bronze.
The chill in the breeze
flowing around the town.
The smell of cinnamon
infiltrating your home, and
of course the wonderful
flavors that flow to the
surface are unbeatable.
Throughout these months
we are blessed with the
wonderful flavors and
blends of impeccable tast
ing foods that come with
celebrating Thanksgiving
and Christmas.
The excitement of finally
hearing your favorite
Christmas symphonies
flow from the radio is
one of the best parts of
this wonderful time, one
my dad especially enjoys.
The glistening lights of
all different colors lining
chimneys and front doors
bringing a joyous spirit
through the world is pure
perfection. Sure summer
is great with blooming
flowers and sunshine but
nothing can beat the won
derful sensations of winter
time.
One thing I particularly
love about the winter is the
snow. The fluffy blanket
of cotton-colored snow
covering the ground is my
favorite part of the year.
Snow also means it’s skiing
season.
About every other year
my family and I will try to
go skiing for Thanksgiving
break. Gliding down hills
of snow makes a sense of
calmness and happiness
cover my mind like the
snow covering the ground.
All of the worries that
come with life float away
into the chilled air when
winter time finally comes
around the corner.
I haven’t even mentioned
the best part of all of this,
Christmas morning. Re
ceiving presents wrapped
in glistening paper and
shining bows is such a
wonderful way to end the
year. Rushing through the
halls to see presents tightly
wrapped around the brim
of a breathtaking Christ
mas tree is just indescrib
able. The winter time is
filled with so much joy
filling the air proves how
it is by far the best time of
the year.
