The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Weed and gummies send
Illinois woman to jail
More than a pound of marijua
na was confiscated from a 2020
Kia Sportage near North Lee
Street on 1-75 S on Oct. 20. Sgt.
Kevin Williams spotted the Kia
with an obscured license plate
and after making the stop had
the driver exit the vehicle. The
driver told the sergeant there was
no weed in the Kia as did the oc
cupants who were also removed
from the car.
A black purse was found in the
backseat that contained mar
ijuana as well as three vials of
marijuana wax. Included in the
purse were also two chocolate
bars infused with psilocybin.
A 32-year-old female passenger
from Berwyn, Ill. admitted the
purse was hers but when asked
about the drugs, she went silent.
A bag was found in the trunk
with two bags of vacuum sealed
marijuana as well as four THC
vape vials. There was also another
smaller bag of THC infused
candies with two more psilocybin
chocolate bars. After the woman
admitted to owning all drugs
found in the Kia, she was arrested
and turned over to jail staff with
warrants for distributing 1.56
pounds of marijuana, possession
of wax marijuana, possession of
TCH infused gummies, posses
sion of THC oil, and psilocybin
possession.
The driver received a verbal
warning for the obscured plate
and removed the bracket before
being released.
Defiant inmate gets tased
The public defenders office sent
a fax to Sgt. Holly Martinage at
the county jail on Oct. 28 around
10 a.m. stating that they needed
to speak with several subjects
in booking area. Martinage sent
officer Kent to the block to gather
the requested inmates and place
them in holding cell 222 to wait
to be called.
Instead of going into the hold
ing cell, a 51-year-old inmate
from Forsyth approached the
booking counter and said he
needed to use the phone. Marti
nage told him he wasn’t allowed
to use the phone until he was
given a bond.
The inmate became upset with
the sergeant’s response and told
her he wasn’t going into the hold
ing cell. He was told again to get
into the holding cell to which he
refused. Martinage and officers
Lucas and Kent tried to secure
him, but he started resisting and
threatening them. Deputy Harris
arrived and with his help the
inmate was secured in the cell
After a few minutes, Martinage
told the deputies to take the
inmate to the block to be locked
down and he again became defi
ant and had to be taken down to
the floor. He refused to place his
hands behind his back and fought
the deputies until he was tased.
He was finally cuffed, cleared by
medical and placed on lockdown.
A “use of force” report was sub
mitted.
Juvenile with Penn, warrant
captured during traffic stop
A juvenile with a warrant out
of Pennsylvania for strong armed
robbery was stopped in white
2021 Hyundai Sonata on 1-75 S
near Johnstonville Road on Oct.
28. The juvenile identified as
only “SB” was clocked doing 98
mph in the Hyundai with three
occupants by deputy Christopher
Marsh and when the deputy
got behind the vehicle, speeds
increased to 115 mph. Once
Marsh activated his emergency
lights, the driver pulled over on
the right.
SB told Marsh he didn’t have
his license on him but that he
had a picture of it on his phone.
When his information came back
from dispatch, Marsh learned
it was not a driver’s license but
a state-issued ID card and that
the Philadelphia Police Depart
ment wanted to extradite the
boy. A loaded firearm was found
beneath the front seat and the
passengers denied ownership.
The driver was taken into custody
and charged with driving without
a license, speeding, and underage
possession of a firearm. He is also
being held on the warrant and
was turned over to the Regional
Youth Detention Center in Ma
con. The vehicle was released to a
licensed passenger.
Macon man caught tossing
weed at checkpoint
A Macon man was arrested af
ter he threw marijuana out of his
car window as he approached an
1-75 S sobriety checkpoint set up
on Johnstonville Road on Oct. 28.
The 45-year-old man approached
deputies in a black 2014 Jeep
Cherokee, abruptly slowed down
then threw two plastic bags out of
the front passenger window.
Investigator Daniel Ahlstrom
walked directly to the bags,
ordering the driver to pull over
as he went past him. Ahlstrom
picked up the bags which con
tained suspected marijuana, gave
them to the evidence collection
unit then went to the Jeep and
read the driver his rights.
The man asked the investigator
why he was being arrested and
was informed it was for littering
and marijuana possession. He ad
mitted to throwing the bags out
of his car and was taken to jail.
Man arrested for violation of
family violence order
Judge Buck Wilder signed
warrants for violation of a tem
porary protective order against
a 61-year-old Norcross man on
Nov. 4. Deputy Joshua Warren
was sent to an Exchange Drive
home where an 86-year-old
woman told she wasn’t aware of
the TPO and was okay with her
son being there. The man also
said he was unaware of the order,
but he was cuffed and taken into
custody anyway.
Driver arrested after
a quart of vodka
Deputy Corbin Becelia saw a
white Toyota that was the subject
of a BOLO with a possible drunk
driver traveling south on Hwy.

Nov. 5 and after the emergency
lights were activated, the driver
pulled into the recycling center at
Old Brent Road.
Becelia had the man step out of
the car and asked him he had had
been drinking. The driver had
bloodshot eyes and told the depu
ty with slurred speech that he had
consumed a quart of vodka the
night before.
He consented to a sobriety test
and after failing by stumbling and
making improper turns, blew
into a breathalyzer that registered
a high positive for alcohol. He
also agreed to submit to a blood
test. He was then arrested and
charged with DUI and no proof
of insurance.
Intoxicated woman causes
disturbance in Teagle Road
driveway
A 44-year-old Monticello wom
an was charged with obstruction
and trespassing after deputies
Cody Maples and Matthew Posey
were dispatched to a disturbance
at a Teagle Road home on Nov. 5.
The homeowner was standing in
the driveway when the deputies
arrived and told them a woman
was in her truck and would not
get out and leave.
Posey tried to speak with
the woman sitting in the com
plainant’s blue Ford F-150 but she
was speaking incoherently and
making erratic movements.
She appeared to be intoxicated
with some type of stimulant and
had thrown the contents of the
truck out on the ground.
She was ordered out of the
truck but she said it was her
vehicle and began demanding
the keys and money so she could
leave. She then began shouting
racial slurs and profanities at the
deputies. She then wrapped her
arms around the steering wheel
and held on tight. Maples then
grabbed one of her arms while
Posey grabbed the other and they
removed her from the vehicle and
cuffed her while she was yelling
that the truck belonged to her.
She continued shouting inco
herently and attempted to snatch
away as she was escorted to the
patrol unit and secured in the
backseat.
The complainant told Posey the
woman had also broken her cane
when she threw her belongings
from the truck.
While being taken to the
Monroe County Jail, the woman
began to spit onto the security
partition of the patrol car. Once at
the jail, she told Sgt. Akedra Rob
ertson that she would spit in her
face. Robertson then placed a spit
mask on the woman and helped
with removing her from the pa
trol car. Warrants were obtained
on the woman for trespassing and
two counts of obstruction.
Drunk bilingual man forgets
English after speeding stop
A 51-year-old man feigned not
knowing English when it came
time for a blood test after he was
stopped for speeding on 1-75 S
by deputies Matthew Posey and
Cody Maples on Nov. 6
The man passed the deputies
doing 93 mph in a 2017 Toyota
and was stopped just inside the
weight station. When asked his
reason for speeding he repeated
the question back. Posey noticed
the driver had red, puffy, blood
shot eyes and slurred speech.
Maples asked the man out of
the vehicle and if he would give
a preliminary breath sample. He
agreed and received a high pos
itive for breath alcohol content.
Maples then performed a field
sobriety test which the driver
soon failed and was arrested.
An open bottle of Seagram’s
Vodka was found under the driv
er’s seat. When asked if he would
consent to a chemical test of his
blood, the man told Posey he
couldn’t speak English and didn’t
understand the question.
He was turned over to the jail
staff and cited for DUI-refusal,
open container and speeding.

and runs in around an hour
A BOLO was issued on a white

a vehicle driven by a Warner
Robins woman near High Falls
Road on 1-75 N on Nov. 11 and a
41-year-old Pensacola, Fla. man
was later charged with hit and
run. The woman driver told Cpl.
Larry Sullivan she was traveling
in the middle lane when the Jeep
struck her vehicle after coming
from the right lane. A BOLO for
the Jeep was passed onto Butts
and Henry counties.
Around an hour later, the
Locust Grove Police Department
advised that a hit and rim oc
curred there, involving a vehicle
matching the description of the
white Jeep and that they had the
driver in custody.
A picture of the Jeep was ob
tained through the Flock system
and shown to the woman that
had been hit in Monroe County.
She was able to confirm that the
vehicle was the same and Sullivan
sought a warrant on the man for
hit and rim. Officer McDowell
of the Locust Grove took felony
warrants against him for aggra
vated assault since the hit and run
there was an intentional ram
ming. The driver was later taken
into custody in Mississippi by the
Rankin County Sheriff’s Office
with the assistance of the Flock
camera system. The man has a
history of DUI charges
Gainesville man jailed after
falling asleep at High Falls
gas pump
Sgt. Thomas Haskins and Cpl.
Larry Sullivan found a 30-year-
old Gainesville man asleep in
his 2020 Toyota Rav4 at a BP gas
pump in High Falls on Nov. 12
with his foot on the accelerator,
revving the engine.
The man appeared confused
when he was awakened. The
deputies could smell marijuana
coming from the vehicle, but the
man denied there was weed in his
car and said he hadn’t smoked in
a long time. He said he was com
ing from Macon on his way to
see family in Gainesville but was
unsure why he was in High Falls.
He failed a roadside sobriety
test by losing his balance. Xanax
was found in his pocket which he
denied was his. He also denied
ownership of two plastic bags
of marijuana found by Haskins
inside the center console of the
