Prepare for runoff
ad bombardment
I f you watch the news and particularly TV news
CNN, Fox, etc. we, Georgia, have been the leading
story For the next couple of
weeks we will be analyzed,
predicted and even prognosticat
ed. As a state we have received
more publicity, both positive and
negative, than I can remember. So,
gird your loins, keep focused and
make your voting decision before
you go back to your precinct, vote
absentee or vote early.
Be prepared over the next
couple of weeks to be candidate
bombarded, attempted to be
candidate seduced. Just vote!
LAST WEEK we as individuals and as a community
celebrated this newspapers 50th year of providing each of
you with what happened and what is going to happen in
Monroe County.
The turnout at the Chambers Business After Hours par
ty at The Reporter office was almost overwhelming to me.
Those attending expressed “Happy Birthday”. What was
not surprising was who didn’t show up such as the Forsyth
and Culloden mayors and their council members, only
one county commissioner, a couple board of education
members but not even the county manager which was not
surprising. Guess he had to return to his South Georgia
home to feed his chickens.
Personally, as founder of this newspaper, last weeks cele
brations brought back many memories and the luncheon I
hosted for former and present employees was almost a tear
jerker listening to many memories.
WE SHOULD all be very concerned for what is hap
pening in our country, even right here in Monroe County.
More and more we have governments that no longer
aspire for us to be “the home of the free and brave”. I have
continued my efforts to attend both the Forsyth City
Council and County Commission meetings for 50 years.
I am constantly surprised at the lack of citizen atten
dance/involvement at those meetings. Of course when an
“issue” arises, the meeting can become crowded for the
few moments the “issue” is discussed.
I have not attended a school board meeting, depending
on Diane to report what the board decides and discusses.
From what I have heard, the school board is not “citizen”
friendly with the board very obstinate and not interested
in what citizens and student parents have to say. As one
parent told me, I need to do more to “expose” the attitudes
toward parents and citizens and when one of the board
members attempts to discuss “sensitive” issues he is imme
diately is shut down by the wielder of the gavel
THE ANSWER to last weeks The Question goes to
Barbara Greek and Dena Wheeler, answering just seconds
apart with the answer being 5 percent raises for all county
employees, that’s right, 5 percent.
Here’s The Question for this week: What recent city em
ployee only lasted a few months? First correct answer after
12 noon on Thursday gets the goodie certificate for Big
Peach car wash, slice of strawberry pie at Shoney’s, fried
green tomato appetizer at Whistle Stop down in Juliette,
single dip of ice cream at Scoops, dozen Dunkin Donuts
and a Dairy Queen Blizzard.
ACCORDING TO my source, between 500 and 1,000
people attended the Fall Back Folk Festival in High Falls
on Saturday. I went and enjoyed the crafts and the music
and talking to the founder and organizer, Kelly Dunn.
Hope it will become an annual event.
WELL, FINALLY I can do something about the crows
with their “caw-caws” being absolutely annoying until Tull
and Rose with their barking scare them off for a few min
utes. That is, until Tull and Rose get tired and the crows
finally ignore them and return with even more.
“I write that to let you know you can start shooting the
crows, according to Terry Johnson and his column “Mon
roe Outdoors.” The season started a couple weeks ago
and ends Feb. 28. According to Terry there is no daily or
season bag limit. So bring out your guns and shoot away.
I don’t know if there is a recipe for cooking crows. I just
know I’ve eaten a lot of crow.
I’M GONNA write this with retribution expected. This
from The Wall Street Journal written on the editorial page
by Patricia Posner the author of “The Pharmacist of Aus
chwitz” she stated, “The movement to ‘degender’ medicine
amounts to erasure of the female sex.” I’ve ordered the
book to give to my pharmacist son. I’ll read it first.
THE OTHER day I went to a local whopperdiddlymac
fast food restaurant. Walked in, up to the counter, facing
the cashier/order taker never asking what I wanted. I
placed and paid for my order.
A few minutes later, she handed it to me and I said
“thank you ma’am.” I immediately realized I shouldn’t
have said that because she immediately “lit” into me, very
angrily commenting “I ain’t yo ma’am!” Shocked, I left my
order on the counter and walked out, Haven’t been back to
that hamburger joint and have no intention to go back.
HERE ARE a couple of definitions from Ambrose
Bierce’s—not County Commissioner John Ambrose—
-“The Devil’s Dictionary”: “Presidency: The greased pig
in the field game of American politics.” Here’s one more:
“President: The leading figure in a small group of men of
whom—and of whom only—it is positively known that
immense numbers of their countrymen did not want any
of them for President.” Okay, one more: “Insurrection, n,
An unsuccessful revolution. Disaffection’s failure to substi
tute misrule for bad government.”

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
MP showed heart in playoff
To the Editor:
n observation from
Saturday night’s
game: Mary Persons
did not have a pro
ductive first half; however they
made a commendable effort in
the second half demonstrating
an unwillingness to give up.
At the game’s conclusion, the
coach and his staff embraced
their players on the field and
I could tell there was a strong
level of respect for each other.
Even though the score was
disappointing, the character
displayed on the field was not.
Long after the playoffs are
forgotten, these young men
and their families will be
benefiting from the virtuous
leadership I witnessed.

I don’t understand why y’all feel
the need to state the players who
got ejected on our team by name
(“Game ended early due to out-of-

everything on Pike County when MP

playing dirty. “Players for 2-7 pike...”
Y’all are a f- joke and act like we

To the Editor:

run-off is here. Ques
tions: Since Warnock
votes 96 percent of
the time with the Biden Ad

now than two years ago? No.
Are the economy, jobs,
inflation and the cost of gas
and food improved? No. Is
our southern border under
control? No. Do we feel safer
in the public than two years
ago? No. Is our foreign policy
strong? No.
The list goes on and on
I think, this time anyway, it is
better to vote Republican.

No ALLEGIANCE To GrEORQ\A
ON THE PORCH
Continued from Front
groups — the Trumpy
election-deniers, and the
regular Brian Kemp Re
publicans of the world. I’ve
had a foot in each camp.
The mail-in ballot harvest
ing allowed after COVID
bothers me greatly. But
Trump’s obsession with
it hasn’t been helpful. But
whatever camp you’re in,
we now have a field test to
see what the people think.
Like it or not, in the 2020
and now the 2022 elec
tion, voters clearly prefer
the normal Republican
candidates to the Trumpy
ones. Trump’s chosen can
didates, Dr. Oz in Penns-
lyania, Blake Masters and
Kari Lake in Arizona, and
David Perdue in Georgia,
lost while normal
Republicans like
Brian Kemp have
won.
Which brings us back to
Herschel. I like Herschel.
A lot. Yes he has some
baggage but so does the
incumbent, Raphael War
nock. Georgians are hiring
someone to vote for our
principles, and Herschel
will represent those values
well, unlike slumlord War
nock. Macon-based radio
host Erick Erickson (a big
fan of this newspaper)
said on Monday that Gov.
Kemp is turning his entire
ground operation over to
the national Republicans
to try to get Herschel over
the goal line.
If Kemp can help get
Trump’s chosen candi
date, Herschel, into the
U.S. Senate on Dec. 6, it
should be the final nail in
the coffin for Trump’s hold
on Georgia Republicans.
Monroe County gave
senators David Perdue and
Kelly Loeffler about 10,000
votes in the January 2021
runoff. We will need to
give Herschel 11,000 on
Dec. 6 to get him over the
top. Let’s do it.
Nationally, we need
a new leader who can
impose all the good
conservative policies that
Trump had, without the
toxic personality and
whining about electoral
losses. What if there was a
very popular Republican
governor who had grown
his support in a large state
to the point that he was
a political force. Maybe
he was re-elected by 20
points. Maybe he took on
the woke-sters trying to
destroy our country, and
the COVIDIANS trying
to shut our country down
like communists, and won
every battle. Hmmm. Can
you think of anyone like
that who could replace
The Donald and lead the
party back to the White
House in 2024? Some
one who wins and not
whines? I think I know
just the man. Yes, the Red
Wave only materialised
last Tuesday for Gov. Ron
DeSantis and Florida.
Perhaps the country didn’t
really miss Red Wave last
week. Perhaps it was just
getting started. We can
hope.
