One of Monroe County’s
new FLOCK cameras, this
one on Johnstonville Road,
received a hit that a stolen
2002 Honda Civic had
passed it on Nov. 29 and
an Indiana man was later
arrested for aggravated
assault on a peace officer.
According to the sheriff’s
report, deputy Enrique
Hogan responded to the
area and saw the vehicle
parked but didn’t see any
one inside.
While Hogan was waiting
for backup, the Honda
pulled out and went to
wards Johnstonville Road.
Hogan tried to block the
car that had two occupants,
but the driver, Ethan Mykal
Whaley, 18, Rushville,
Ind., went around him and
headed towards the inter
state. Whaley tried to make
a left turn onto southbound
1-75 but went off the road
into the grassy area and
Hogan set up for a RI.T.
maneuver.
When Whaley saw
Hogan getting in position
for the maneuver, he tried
to force the patrol unit off
the road and continued
south reaching speeds over
113 mph, zigzagging in the
road, forcing other mo
torists out of their lanes or
completely off the road.
At mile marker 188,
Hogan again tried the RI.T.
maneuver and again Wha
ley tried to strike his patrol
vehicle with the stolen
Honda.
Between mile markers
187 and 186, Whaley side-
swiped a civilian vehicle
forcing it out of its lane of
travel. The Honda exited at
Tift College Drive and then
reentered the interstate.
As Whaley was approach
ing Hwy. 18, he was hit by a
success
ful RI.T.

to crash
into the
center
concrete
divider.
Whaley and his pas
senger, Tony Bridges, 19,
of Shelbyville, Ind. then
took off on foot across the
northbound lanes where
they were apprehended.
Whaley was charged
with seatbelt violation,
aggressive driving, failure
to maintain lane, driving in
a forbidden area, fleeing (2

a license, speeding, leav
