A 43-year-old Jackson
man driving a 2007 Chev
rolet Silverado fled on foot
after causing a collision
that sent two
people to
the hospital
on Nov. 26.
According to
the report,
deputy
Christopher
Marsh was
dispatched to
the accident
on Blount
Road near
Timberline
Drive where
he found two victims in
a green 1996 Jeep Grand
Cherokee, Kelly Evans and
David Mauldin, already
being attended to by EMS.
Evans was being extracted
from the vehicle which was
leaking gas in a ditch and
had crashed into a tree.
The Silverado was on the
road and turned around in
the opposite direction of
travel. A witness said the
driver, Kevin Ray Slocum,
got out of his truck after the
collision and fled on foot
toward Timberline Drive.
Mauldin told Marsh that
he and Evans were on the
way home from picking up
a pizza when the Silver
ado came from around
a vehicle in the opposite
lane of travel and collided
with their Jeep. Both Evans
and Mauldin were taken
to Monroe
County
Hospital with
injuries sus
tained from
the collision.
The witness
told deputies
the pickup
sped past
him on the
wrong side of
the road on
Blount Road
in a no-pass
ing zone and Slocum tried
to swerve back on the right
side of the road. He then hit
the Jeep and pushed it off
the road which made it hit
a tree. The tree had a point
of impact approximately 15
dish
feet up and scrape marks
to the ground. The witness
also said that the Silverado
spun around and stopped
the wrong way in traffic
where Slocum got out of
his vehicle and took off.
Inside the Silverado was
an open beer can about
3/4th full of beer. There
were around 75 empty
beer cans and bottles in
the truck bed. Due to the
seat belt being locked and
the rearview mirror being
cracked with Slocums hair
embedded in it, it was evi
dent that he was not wear
ing a seatbelt at the time
of the crash. The Silverado
also had bald tires. A check
with dispatch revealed
Slocum had a suspended
license due to child support
obligations.
Deputies tried to find
Slocum around the area
but failed. They then went
to his Jackson home where
