Bolingbroke has Christmas spirit & will share it Dec. 10
By Sloan Oliver
sloanoliver@earthlink.net
B olingbroke Christmas
preparations are in full
swing - the Bolingbroke
Christmas Parade is
this Saturday (Dec 10) at 11am,
decorations are in place,
the Pate Road Christmas
lights began last week,
local establishments report
that business (i.e. shop
ping) is doing great and
the Bolingbroke Commu
nity Clubhouse looks
fantastic.
Speaking of the club
house - Wow! If you
haven’t seen it (next to the fire sta
tion), check it out. Over the years,
the clubhouse fell into a state of
decline, mostly due to maintenance
not keeping up. Gregg Phillips
and Brandy Bankston-Boynton,
co-presidents of the Bolingbroke
Community Club (BCC), made
the clubhouses restoration a main
priority this first year of leading
the BCC. Mission accomplished.
The clubhouse looks postcard
perfect, especially now with fresh
paint, new siding, new landscaping,
and its Christmas decorations of
wreaths, ribbons and garland.
Gregg and Brandy were the driv
ing forces behind the restoration.
However, it took many others
to make it happen. BIG thanks
are owed to a number of people
including:
Jim Mickle (Bolingbrokes
unofficial historian) who original
ly started the project but family
obligations prevented him from
finishing.
Commissioner John Ambrose
who helped secure county funding
used to purchase all materials -
except the paint (see below).
Michael Nungesser and Five Star
Painting (of Macon) for repainting
the clubhouse (inside and
out) at no charge to the
BCC. Five Star donated all
materials (paint) and labor.
Excellent work.
Larry Ballard Jr. (of Oak
and Iron Inc.) for obtaining
the new wood siding
. rr\ M and to Bowden Oakes
MWMAjWV. Ci-UXHAV for installing the sid
ing - by himself.
a .;
Mossy Corner Nursery (in
Smarr) which gave very affordable
prices on the plants and flowers.
Jim Bloodworth of Cutting Edge
Landscaping for providing the pin-
estraw. Cutting Edge also handles
the landscaping and mowing (no
charge) around the Bolingbroke
welcome signs along Hwy-41.
Chris and Julie Spence for general
cleanup, painting the light poles,
and helping with decorations.
And Kristen Coursen and
Brandy for decorating inside the
clubhouse to include the Christ
mas background that will provide
great photos with Santa and family
Christmas pictures.
Regarding Santa: Yes, he will be
here for the Bolingbroke Christ
mas Parade (BCP), this Saturday
at 11 am. The parade route is
Rivoli Road from the 1-475 bridge,
past Donnys Propane, Southern
Charm, the post office to just past
the clubhouse. Santa is al
ways the last float/car in the
parade. He’ll then re-locate
to the clubhouse for visits
and photos. As we know,
The Bolingbroke Community Clubhouse
has been restored to great condition and
Na Lani Proctor Santa will use it as his headquarters after
the Christmas parade.
Santa must return to the
North Pole but he promises
to stay until all children are able see
him.
This year, the BCP has two
special guests. The first is Vicki
Smith - the Grand Marshall. Vicki
was the 20-year long past president
of the Bolingbroke Community
Club. It’s fair to say that without
Vicki’s drive and motivation, there
would be no BCC and no Christ
mas parade. She kept both going
for decades. Vicki will be riding in
a car driven by Bobby Smith, her
husband.
The second special guest is
Na’Lani - a little, 15-month-old
girl, voted as “Honorary Little
Miss Christmas, Bolingbroke.”
Her mother, Toriyahanna “Tori”
Proctor, worked at Little Angels
Daycare (Located on Rivoli Road,
the parade will pass right in front.)
where she cared for many of
Bolingbrokes young children.
Earlier this year, Tori, a 2018
graduate of MPHS, was murdered,
leaving Na’Lani motherless and the
community heartbroken. Na’Lani
is being raised by her grandmother
who reports that she is doing good
and “is an exact replica of Tori.”
The entire Bolingbroke commu
nity (yes, everyone please) is being
asked to help make Christmas 2022
very
special See Bolingbroke
