Monroe County has three Fire
Prevention Week poster winners
Two schools in Monroe
County had winners in
the annual Fire Preven
tion Week Poster contest
sponsored by the Office of
Commissioner of Insur
ance and Safety Fire, John
F. King, and the Georgia
Sprinkler Association.
Every year, the National
Fire Protection Associa
tion puts out a theme for
Fire Prevention Week and
this year's theme is "Fire
Won't Wait. Plan Your
Escape."
K.B. Sutton Elementary
School had two winners,
Keilee Mullis, 3rd place
winner for the month
of November, and Rose
Vance, 1st place winner
for the month of Novem
ber. Their posters were
submitted by their art
teacher, Johnnie Skelton.
Hubbard Elementary
School had one winner,
Adam Keenan, 2nd place
for the month of Novem
ber; his poster was sub
mitted by his art teacher,
Elizabeth Selman.
The theme highlights
why having a home escape
plan is so important in the
case of an emergency.
The poster entries
focused on 12 different
fire and life safety tips.
The other 11 themes cov
ered related safety tips.
The Grand Prize win
ners of each month in
the contest will have their
drawings placed in a Fire
Safety Calendar that will
be handed out to all 3rd
grade teachers across the
State of Georgia. Every
time the teachers turn
the calendar, they can
review the safety tip with
their students. The main
theme, “Fire Wont Wait.
Plan Your Escape,” will be
used for the cover of the
calendar and in the month
of October.
The pictures submitted
for the poster contest by
Monroe County winners
will not be featured in the
yearly calendar, but they
were recognized by the
Office of Commissioner
of Insurance John F. King
on Dec. 2. The Cen
tral Georgia Life Safety
Educator for the Office of
Insurance and Safety Fire,
Leona Hill, visited both
schools to recognize and
congratulate Keilee, Rose
and Adam. Representa
tives of the City of Forsyth
Fire Department, Monroe
County Fire Department
and Christina Bramlett,
Life Safety Educator for
Monroe County also
came to K.B. Sutton and
Hubbard Elementary.
