Spotlight on Local Churches
PASTOR’S CORNER by Rev. Nathan Jackson
Christmas celebrates
God’s gift of Himself to us
Rev. Nathan Jackson
M erry Christmas, a simple
saying yet what does it mean?
Lets look closer at it and see.
I’ll start with this truth:
Without Christ, there is no Christmas. You
see, Christmas stands
for “Christ Mass” which
means to celebrate in
Mass the birth of Christ
That’s the whole reason
we celebrate- because of
Christ who was born...
to live.. .and then die...
and to live again!
Let’s start by looking
at the Christmas story
found in Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a Child
is bom, unto us a Son
is given; and the govern
ment shall be upon His shoulder; And His
name will be called Wonderful, Counsel
or, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince
of Peace.” (NKJV)
God did not have to send a Savior, but
He did because of His magnificent love for
us.. .how do I know? Because it says so in
God’s word and as Chrsitians we take that
as truth.
1. For unto us...
For unto us what? A Child is born - A
Son is given.
The Christmas season is about giving be
cause it was first given unto us. God looked
down on mankind and had great com
passion. He desired for us to be redeemed
back to Himself. We are His most precious
creation, and He wanted us back with Him
Isaiah had been given the prophecy a few
chapters earlier in Isaiah 7:14 of Who was
coming; and that He who was coming was
the Lord.
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give
you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive,
and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel”
Here it is written that “the Lord Himself
shall give”. To whom did He give?
To us a child is bom and what did He
give? A Son (also Himself); if we truthfully
look at Isa 7:14 again we see “the Lord
Himself shall give”. What is being said here
is amazing and that is “the Lord shall give
Himself” to us! Scripture backs this up in
many verses, a few are...
Luke 2:11 says “For unto YOU is bom
this day in the city of David a Savior,
which is Christ the Lord.”
John 1:14 says “And the Word was made
flesh and dwelt among us...”
1 John 4:4 says “And we have
seen and do testify that the Father
sent the Son to be the Savior of the
world”
Unto Us a Son is given...
Christmas time is great!!! I love
this time of year people are mostly
more joyful, congenial, and recep
tive to kindness. As well as being
more app to divvy out compassion
and kindness on others. These are
all wonderful things, but they all
pale in comparison to what this
season really is; for me it is a time
to reflect and see that (unto me)
was given the gift of His Son
Paul says in 1 Cor that it is an “inde
scribable gift”, and that is because He gave
Himself as a gift.. .incorruptible, unblem
ished, without sin.. .an everlasting imper
ishable gift.
This Christmas season I pray that all will
know that “unto us” a Son is given.. .the
most precious gift of all time, Jesus Christ
the light and salvation of the world.
My prayer is that everyone embrace fully
all that Christmas is, (Jesus Christ) and
know that that He is our Wonderful Coun
selor, He is our Mighty God, He is our
Everlasting Father, and He is our Prince of
Peace.
May we all share with everyone every
where this season, that the real Christmas
message is
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a
Son is given; and the government shall be
upon His shoulder; And His name will
be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”
(NKJV)

Ben Amerson tells Rotary Club of his Christian business model
Ben Amerson and his
son, Michael Amerson,
from Five Star Travels
spoke to Forsyth Monroe
County Rotary Club on
Dec. 8,
Ben and his family are
Forsyth natives. Ben grad
uated from Mary Persons
in 1976 and says he went
to the same school all 12
grades. Ben said 31 years
ago he was praying one day
and felt in his spirit that the
Lord had directed him to
start his own business.
He was already involved
in the tour and travel
business as a motor coach
driver and was very famil
iar with how the business
worked. He obeyed the
Lord and started Five Star
Travels. Within 2 weeks
after starting the business,
he was booked up for the
remainder of the year.
Ben said he continues to
serve in all areas in Five
Star Travel because of God’s
grace and mercy. He said
God directed him to never
worry about the bottom
line and that is how he rims
his business. He said he
believes that a good name
is better than a bank full of
money.
“We are a company that
can accommodate travel in
all 50 states, Europe, Can
ada, Mexico - virtually any
destination in the world,”
said Ben. “Five Star Travels
is a business, but it’s a
ministry also. We take great
pride in the ability to bless
deserving children with
the opportunity to travel
to a destination where they
have never been, knowing
that their parents were not
able to pay. We give many
trips away over the course
of the year, but we don’t
miss a meal because of it.”
Ben said that in the
Spring of2020, Five Star
Travels had 25 schools
scheduled to travel, but by
the close of business on
March 13,2020, all 25 had
cancelled. Per the can
cellation policy, Five Star
Travels had the legal right
to hold almost $800,000
that had been paid for
upcoming trips.
“The Lord spoke to my
heart and said, ‘Refund
everyone,”’ said Ben. “We
refunded every person
their money except for
a $25 administrative fee
per person traveling. That
helped me to pay my staff
and cover the overtime
that was needed to process
every refund within two
weeks. I’m very proud of
that because of our busi
ness model, we represented
God in a great light.”
Ben said that Five Star
Travels is stronger as a
business than it has ever
been. He said when he
retires in August 2023, he
will be passing on a strong
healthy business to Mi
chael.
“I hope that I have mod
eled for him what it’s like
to be a Christian business
leader,” said Ben.
