Investigator Chris Landers an Everyday Hero
By Steve Reece

Investigator Chris Land
ers never knows what he
will encounter when he
walks into his office at the
Monroe County Sheriff’s
Office. He says it’s one of
the more interesting things
about his job as our coun
ty’s financial crimes inves
tigator and sexual crime
register enforcer. Recently,
he went to check on a sex
offender and discovered six
malnourished dogs at the
man’s home and had to call
animal services. And just
last week, he had to inter
view a victim of financial
card fraud from the safety
of the gentleman’s porch
because the victim was us
ing oxygen while smoking
a cigarette
inside the
home.
Chris was
raised in
Monroe
County, the
son of Steve
and Gina
Landers,
also lifetime
Monroe Countians. He first
became interested in law
enforcement when he was
a member of the Explorer
Police Program, sponsored
by the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation, at the age of
16 while going to Tattnall
an ER doctor, but which is
more rewarding?”

of it, and by the time he
was 19 he was working as a
jailer for Monroe County.
Meanwhile, Chris con

working
full-time,
first going
to Central

and then

receiving
master’s and bachelor’s
degrees in public safety
leadership and criminal
justice leadership. He is a

this week is taking his final
exams to become an EMT.

twenty years of service with
our county, working in
nearly every division.
He met his wife Cristi
while she was working in
the Monroe County tag of
fice, and he would go there
frequently to pull records.
They were married in 2011
and have two children, a
daughter, Logan, 20, and a
son, Landen, 17, a student
at Mary Persons.
Inv. Landers advises
young people to follow
their passion. He says,
“Like that old saying goes,
‘If you find something you
love, it’s not really work.’
Don’t get bogged down
doing something you don’t
like to do. Do something
satisfying and meaningful.
For example, you can make
a lot more money as a plas
tic surgeon than you can as

A man and a woman
went to jail after
an incident that
started with a
noise complaint
at Magic Touch
Car Wash on
Patrol Road on
Dec. 6. Accord
ing to a Forsyth
Police report,
officer Jeffery
Burris responded HARVEY
and found two
vehicles parked in the car
wash bays playing loud
music.
Burris approached one
of the vehicles and could
plainly see a blunt in the
ashtray. He asked the
driver, Stentavious Hill, for
his license and to hand him
the blunt.
Burris then went to the
second vehicle which had
a female passenger and
saw an open container of
alcohol. When the driv
er, Desian Harvey, rolled
down his window he could
smell marijuana. He asked
if there was any in the
vehicle and Harvey handed
him a baggie with nearly an
ounce of weed.
Officer Dexter McCune
arrived as a backup and
helped removed Harvey
and his passenger, Tanisha
Hardy from the vehicle and
handcuffed them.
In addition to an open
container of alcohol, two
small baggies of suspected
cocaine as well as a small
scale that had marijuana
residue on it were found.
Harvey was seated in the
rear of Burris’ patrol unit
and Hardy in the
rear of McCune’s
car.
Hill was cited
for possession of
marijuana and
excessive volume
of radio. He was
allowed to have a
driver come to the
scene and drive
him and his vehi-
vey’s vehicle.
Both Harvey and Hardy
were taken to jail where
Hardy was found to have
a small baggie of cocaine
hidden in her vagina. She
was charged with drug pos
session and crossing guard
lines with contraband.
Harvey was charged with
loitering/prowling, driving
