But a family member of the victim told the Report er that she thinks deputies are trying to protect one of their own in Charlie Bryson. A 911 call sent deputies to the Bryson home on Abercrombie Road near Culloden around 10 p.m. on Dec. 26. A witness said that Bryson had been exchanging phone messages with another woman and his wife asked to see his phone. When Bryson resisted and refused to give her his phone, a scuffle ensued and Bryson is accused of grabbing his wife’s wrist to the point she was bruised. Deputies John Cochran and Chris Sherrell arrived at the scene. After speaking to both parties, they decided to arrest Bryson. He was charged with battery, a misde meanor, and released on Tuesday, Dec. 27 on a $1,500 bond. See DEPUTY Page 6A A Christmas wreck on Hwy. 74 Bystanders and Monroe County first responders helped pull a Thomaston woman from her Honda CRV after she wrecked on Hwy. 74 on Christmas Day. Teresa Helms, 67, of Thomaston, was traveling west on Hwy. 74 near Southern Waters subdivision when she left the right shoulder, went into a ditch and crashed onto the drivers side. Witnesses who came upon the scene, including a mailman, got on top of the car and pulled open her drivers door to try to get her out. But the wreck had sent her into her back seat. She finally had to be pulled from the rear of the car. Witnesses said they think she suffered a broken pelvis and she was taken to Atrium hospital in Macon. (Photo/Will Davis) Wrong-way DUI driver on 1-475 By Steve Reece stevereece@gmail.com A Duluth man was charged with DUI after he caused a head-on wreck by driving the wrong way on 1-475 on Christ mas Eve around 10:13 p.m. just north of Estes Road bridge. Fortunately no serious injuries were reported. According to the accident report, Jasmine Nicole Burke, 30, of Kathleen told Monroe County deputy Joshua Warren she was driving her 2013 Dodge Challenger behind another vehicle when suddenly the vehicle in front of her swerved to the right and she saw a black 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Jacques Malik Jones, 25, of Duluth coming right at her. County uses fire hoses to keep the water flowing By Will Davis publisher@mymcnnet A deep Christmas freeze left some Monroe County residents scrambling for wa ter and heat this past week. Monroe County is having to use fire hoses 24/7 to deliver water to North Mon roe County residents. That after Butts County, which provides water to the North Monroe system, had a major main break and a chemical imbalance at Christmas. So the county is having to use a 2,400-foot fire hose to con nect the city of Forsyth water system to the North Monroe system to keep the water flowing.
