Erickson touts MCR on U.S. radio
Radio talk show host Erick Erick
son urged his audience on Monday to
subscribe to their weekly newspaper,
especially the one he subscribes to,
the Monroe County Reporter.
Erickson lives in Macon
but “The Erick Erickson
Show” fills the coveted
noon-3 p.m. slot on WSB,
the most popular radio
station in Atlanta, found on
95.5 FM and 750 AM. Its
also on the iheartradio app.
Erickson spent part of his
show on Monday chiding
the national media for
refusing to report that an
Antifa terrorist in Atlanta
fired at police before he was killed, or
that a mass shooter of Asians in Los
Angeles was not on a racist spree, but
was himself Asian.
“Dare I suggest the press really is
becoming the enemy of a free peo
ple?” wondered Erickson, a reference
to Donald Trumps phrase for the
media.
But Erickson later added a caveat.
“I should point out that one of
the most conservative areas of the
press are local newspapers,” said
Erickson. “I’m not talking about
the regional papers like the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution or even the
McClatchy-owned Macon Telegraph
or the Charlotte newspaper or the
Austin, Texas newspaper. But
you know a lot of counties
and states have newspapers
and those tend to be very
plugged into the local level
and tend to be fairly conser
vative. Their editorialists tend
to be fairly conservative.”
Then Erickson cited the
Reporter as an example of a
newspaper worth supporting.
“There’s a great one near
me that I subscribe to and
it’s a once-a-week newspaper and it
primarily covers its county, and it has
been relentless in exposing a woke
takeover of its local school board
among other things. Those are nec
essary outlets and frankly if you are
a conservative those are the sorts of
press operations you should be sub
scribing to. If you have a local county
paper, you should get a subscription.
One, you stay in the know about
what’s going on in the county wherev
er you live and, two, you are actually
supporting a conservative enterprise.
More often than not, I’m not gonna
say they all are, but overwhelmingly
the county-by-county papers also
tend to be profitable operations.
That’s something else — as much of
the media is dying, a lot of these local
newspapers, countrywide newspa
pers, tend to still turn a small profit.
Operations have been disrupted.
Printing shops have been disrupted
and the like but they’re still pretty
good and they’re worth supporting. I
gotta tell you my local one that I get a
subscription to, it’s one county north
of me: Monroe County in Georgia
and its local newspaper shop has
just been tenacious exposing its local
school board... the publisher just
doubled down on exposing just how
woke and far left and out of touch
with the community the school board
was and has been able to make real
change just by reporting the facts. Not
editorializing, just reporting the facts.
They’re useful services.”
Erickson said when he criticizes the
media he means to paint with a brush
not as broad.

COBRA
Continued from Front
with Timothy James Gould,
38, of Central City, Pa.,
buying poisonous cobras
from him to build the crim
inal case. Florida wildlife
officials began the probe,
dubbed Operation Viper,
in 2020. Last week they
arrested 8 people for dealing
snakes, including Gould.
Adams had arranged online
to buy the illegal snakes
from Gould and met him
in the Royal 7 parking lot in
Forsyth each time, last June,
July, September and then in
January. But just after that
last purchase on Jan. 12,
Monroe County deputies
blocked in Gould’s car and
arrested him.
Adams said that Gould is
charged with 4 felonies for
having tools for the com
mission of a crime, things
like the hooks used to move
the snakes and even Gould’s
Hyundai Elantra used to
transport them. Then he
faces 18 misdemeanor
charges for selling 18 cobra
snakes. Georgia makes it il
legal to import any venom
ous snake that is not native
to the state. Adams said he
paid anywhere from $200
for a regular cobra to $1,000
for a rare tree viper.
“He was making good
money’ said Adams. Gould
advertised his services on
line. The Pittsburgh Reptile
Show & Sale even has a
2018 interview with Gould
posted online. Gould said in
the interview he had been
dealing snakes for 27 years
and had bred them for 22
years. Gould said in the in
terview that he deals snakes
for the enjoyment and to
observe them and that the
income is only secondary.
He’s a musician and said he’s

Adams said Gould had
some spitting cobras that
can spit venom into your
eyes from 15 feet away,
leaving you blind for life.
Another one of Gould’s
snakes, the African tree
viper, is one for which
no anti-venom has been
developed. If it bites you,
said Adams, you die. What
makes it worse, said Adams,
is that rather than looking
venomous, this snake looks
like an innocent garden
snake common in Georgia.
Adams said Gould stored
the snakes in plastic con
tainers that were numbered
in his vehicle and also slept
in his car with his snakes.
Adams said most people
don’t realize that snakes are
the fourth most smuggled
thing in the world, after
humans, drugs and cash.

Another nominator,

Monroe County’s legacy
should continue well into
the future.”

non-native pythons have

wiping out the deer and
chipmunk populations. But
after Gould was released on
just $3,000 bond, Adams
wondered if he would get a
serious punishment.
Monroe County deputy
John Cochran was tasked
with helping take Gould
to jail in the Jan. 12 sting.
Cochran said in 13 years of
law enforcement, he’s never
seen anything like it.
“Those things were huge,”
said Cochran. “That car was
slap full of snakes.”
When DNR officials asked
Cochran if he would trans
port some of the snakes
to the sheriff’s office, he
declined.
“I said ‘absolutely not’!”
laughed Cochran. “I’ve nev
