MP boys beat
ACE tennis 3-2

The MP Boys tennis
team squeaked out a 3-2
win over ACE at the John
Drew Smith Tennis Center
in Macon on Wednesday,
March 1.
Trilok Patel never could
gain any traction against
ACEs 1 Singles player Jor
dan Llevat, losing 2-6,1-6.
At 2 Singles, Aaron McCoy
outlasted Alex Hamlin
6-4,7-5 in a match that
lasted over 2 hours. The
final game went through
at least 10 deuces as both
players continued to battle
it out until the very end.
Carter Campbell played his
namesake in ACEs Car
ter Landford in a seesaw
battle that demonstrated
many highs and lows for
both players, but Campbell
emerged victorious in a
6- 2,1-6, 6-2 affair.
The 1 Doubles team of
Jackson Campbell and
Gavin Parker defeated the
Cook twins, Liam and
Ethan, in a 6-4, 6-4 match
score, while Chris Simp
son and Sam Harrell took
the first set in a tiebreaker
7- 6(6), but ended up falling
in a 3rd set tiebreaker after
ACEs Jacob Cornelius
and Noah Mclnnis won
the second set 7-5 and the
tiebreaker 11-9.
The boys’ record im
proves to 3-2,1-0 (2-AAA)
on the season. Their next
match-up will be Thursday,
March 2, against region
foe Peach County in Fort
Valley.
MP girls fall
to Gryphons

The MP Girls tennis team fell to ACE 4-1 at the John
Drew Smith Tennis Center in Macon on Wednesday,
March 1.
Lauren Thomas gained some traction in the 2nd set,
but ended up losing to ACEs Olivia Deese 0-6,2-6 at
1 Singles. Jayci Daniels faced a similar fate at 2 Singles,
losing 2-6,2-6 to ACEs Kaitlyn Dixon. Claire Campbell
struggled to gain traction, as well, as Logan Johnson
won for ACE at 3 Singles by a match score of 2-6,4-6.
The team of Katherine Clay and Abigail McFather
lost at 1 Doubles to Virginia Register and Samantha
Lee 1-6,5-7; however, the team of Jayden Gray and
Maddie Emami earned the sole win of the afternoon at
2 Doubles again Raley Wilson and Caliya Rollins 6-3,
2-6,1-0(5) in a back and forth affair.
The girls’ record falls to 3-2,1-0 (2-AAA) on the
season. Their next match-up will be Thursday, March 2,
against region foe Peach County in Fort Valley.

Lady Dogs beat Upson, lose to ACE

Dogs are 5-4-1,2-2 re
gion after losing to ACE
and beating Upson-Lee
last week.
On Tuesday, Feb. 28 the
girls easily trounced the
Lady Knights in Thomas-
ton, 5-1.
Junior striker Reagan
Benson led again with
4 goals, 3 in play and 1
penalty kick. Karlie Dell
added a goal as well.
The Lady Dogs suffered
a tough 1-0 lost to ACE
in Macon on Friday
night, March 3.
The Gryphons capital
ized on an MP mistake
in the first half to take
the 1-0 lead. The Lady
Dogs had chances for the
equalizer but could not
score.
“We played well against
a quality opponent and
couldn’t come away
with the result we want
ed,” said coach Jacob
Haygood. “But it was
good experience for the
girls and will only help
us continue to improve.”

Bulldogs beat Upson,
fall to ACE in Macon
The Mary Persons boys soccer team is
2-6-2,1-3 in region after splitting games
against Upson-Lee and ACE last week.
The Bulldogs got their first region win
2-1 over Upson-Lee in Thomaston on
Tuesday, Feb. 28. Josiah Mayers scored first
for MP. Upson was awarded a questionable
PK and got the equalizer to make it 1-1.
But Angel Hernandez scored the game
winner for the Bulldogs.
“We changed a few things around and
ended with a victory’ said MP coach Ken
ny Miller. “They guys played hard.”
Things were tougher at ACE on Friday,
March 3 as the Dogs lost 4-0.
The boys played at Jones County (0-7) on
Tuesday, March 7. Results were not avail
able at press time. Then on Friday, March
10 they’ll host Upson-Lee (2-8,1-3) for
a rematch. On Tuesday, March 14 they’ll
play at Lamar County (4-4) in a non-re
gion contest.
