Jim Cole appointed to State Board
In February Lt. Governor Burt Jones appointed Jim Cole of
Monroe County as a member of the Bona Fide Coin Operat
ed Amusement Machine Operator Advisory Board. Cole was
appointed to replace Dhaval “Bunty” Doshi on the board.
The appointment was effective immediately for a term of
four years or until a successor is appointed and qualified.
The board is composed of 10 members, two appointed by
the Speaker of the House, two appointed by the Lt. Governor
and five members appointed by the Governor. The chief ex
ecutive officer of the Georgia Lottery Corporation also serves
as a member of the board.
The board oversees the machines, primarily located at
convenience stores and eateries, that are a cornerstone of the
Georgia Lottery.
We must trust
to be able to love
A lot has been written lately in
the field of management and
leadership on the importance
of Trust. One of the easiest to
understand is Cindy Olmsteads ABCD
Trust Model.
A. Are you Able? Can you do what you
say you will do?
B. Are you Believable?
Do you know what you
are talking about?
C. Do you Care? Are
you interested in my well
being? Do you truly love?
D. Are you Dependable?
Do you do what you say
you will do?
If we can answer yes to
each of these questions,
and more importantly if
others answer yes about
us, we are worthy of oth
ers' trust.
Businesses, Families, Marriages, Friend
ships all need trust to function well. “We”
do not even function well if we do not
trust others.
I have a friend whose husband divorced
her after 24 years of marriage. She has
been devastated. The deepest wound has
been to her ability to trust. When trust is
gone, fear and worry take over.
She is afraid to go out of her home. She
is afraid to develop any new relationships.
She has become negative and critical.
Her once bright personality has become
dark and alienating. She is very close to
a psychotic break. Depression has taken
over. She is barely holding on to life.
I believe she will begin to heal and re
cover when she learns that there are those
whom she can trust, especially God.
Over 250 times in the New Testament,
it states that we enter into the kingdom
of God through trust in Jesus Christ.
Different translations may use the verb
“believe” or the norm form “faith,” but
the most accurate translation of both is
“trust”.
The Kingdom of God is not a bunch of
rules but, “righteousness, peace and joy
in the Holy Spirit.” - Romans 14:17. The
Kingdom of God is living life as God de
signed us to live. Living
in the Kingdom of God is
fullness of Life.
The most important
decision in all of life is
“Will I Trust Jesus?” Do I
trust him for eternal life?
Do I trust him for every
day grace?
Trust is the foundation
of every healthy relation
ship including our rela
tionship with God. Our
relationship with God
affects our entire being.
It affects how we perceive
ourselves and the world we live in.
Jesus said that the whole Old Testament
Law is summed up in, “Love the Lord
your God with all your heart, all your
soul, all your mind and all your strength.
The second is this, Love your neighbor
as yourself.” Mark 11:29-30. Love is the
greatest motivator in all of life. There are
no negative side effects.
We cannot truly learn to love God or
others until we learn to trust.
Jesus is the door and trust is the handle
with which we enter into eternal life.
Rev. Keith Harris is pastor ofMt. Zion
Unitied Methodist Church, 40 Rumble
Road, Smarr. The Pastors Corner is spon
sored by the Monroe County Ministerial
Association, which meets on the 3rd Thurs

Friends of High Falls State
Park celebrate Earth Day
By Joe Reed
Earth Day
at High Falls
State Park
was celebrat
ed in a vari
ety of ways.
Picnics and
playground
fun were a
staple for
many fami
lies. Dozens
of hikers
enjoyed the
Historic Trail
overlooking
the Towaliga
River and the Tranquility Trail.
The Friends of High Falls State Park
made an impact with a litter pickup of
more than a dozen bags from park road
sides, lake shorelines, trails and picnic
areas. Group president, Lee Williams,
picked up three bags of litter and a noo
dle as he kayaked around the shoreline of
High Falls Lake to clean up after recent
heavy rains. The Friends Group left a
cleaner park for visitors and area resi
dents to enjoy.
Friends of High Falls State Park meets
at 6 pm. on the second Tuesday of each
month. The next meeting will combine
pizza with a cornhole tournament on
Tuesday, May 9th. All are welcome to
come play, eat and learn about the park
and upcoming plans.
