Mary Persons senior Greenly
Aghajanian has been awarded $4,000
for college with the Deputy Michael
Norris Memorial Scholarship.
Aghajanian was chosen in part
because she wants to pursue a career
as a homicide investigator. She will at
tend Middle Georgia State in the fall.
Aghajanian was motivated to
pursue law enforcement in part
after her great uncle and aunt were
murdered in Twiggs County in 2021.
Fred and Peggy White were robbed
and killed at their Twiggs County
home when Greenly was a junior at
Mary Persons, sending trauma and
shockwaves through her close-knit
family. Greenly said she was already
considering a career as a homicide
investigator, and that confirmed her
desire to seek justice, even if her mom
had her concerns.
“You see it from a different view
when it’s your family’ said Greenly.
One of the suspects has already
been sentenced to two life in prison
sentences, while the other suspect is
awaiting trial and is now a suspect in
nine different murders.
The Reporter and Norris Scholar
ship sponsors have now given away
$43,000 in scholarships to 22 different
Mary Persons graduates interested in
public safety in the past 8 years. The
Reporter created the scholarship after
deputy Michael Norris, a Culloden
native and young husband, was killed
while responding to a domestic call in
2014. The purpose was to encourage
young Monroe Countians of good
character like Norris to enter public
safety.
Reporter Publisher Will Davis
thanked all the supporters and do
nors who make it possible to encour
age noble, young Monroe Countians
to pursue careers as first responders
in Norris’ memory. To support the
