to protect our way of life
in the U.S. The program is
organized by the Monroe
County Republican Party
with the contributions of
many officials, churches and
organizations throughout
the county. Everyone is
encouraged to attend and
recognize those who made
the ultimate sacrifice.

1823 Artisan Guild pet
events
The 1823 Artisan Guild, 30
East Main Street, Forsyth
is ‘Going to the Dogs' on
Saturday, June 3 with three
special events: From 10 a.m.-
1 p.m. will be a Save A Pet
adoption opportunity. From
1-4 p.m. will be ‘Pawprints
on Canvas’ to bring your
eashed pet for pet art. Cre
ate your artwork assisted by
Guild artist. The cost is $20/
pet, with half going to Save
A Pet. There will be an Arts
& Crafts Show all day with
animal-themed items from

Football Speed Camp
Coach Davis will lead a
Football Speed Camp for
boys ages 7-12 on June 5-8
from 9 a.m.-1 2 noon at 1003
Highway 4IS, Forsyth. It will
teach techniques, drills and
new ways to improve athlet
ic skills, and there will be fun
and games, snacks & drinks.

distributes free summer
lunches
The Community Improve
ment Coalition of Monroe
County will again distribute
free lunch meals to children
1 8-years-old and younger
this summer, from Monday,
June 5-Thursday, June 29.
Meals will be distributed
each Monday -Thursday at
Forsyth Gardens Apartment
from 1 2 noon -1 2:30 p.m., at
Union Hill Apartments from
12 noon-12:30 p.m. and at
First Baptist Church Forsyth
from 1 1:30 a.m.-1 2 noon.
The meals are sponsored
through Happy Helpings
and Bright from the Start
Summer Feeding Program.

Monroe County Chamber of Com
merce Foundation honored stu
dents who are the top readers and
who have shown the most growth
in reading skills over the 2022-23
school year at Monroe County’s
three elementary schools: T.G.
Scott, K.B. Sutton and Hubbard.
The students received certificates
and gifts, including a gift card for
Dairy Queen, and were treated to
cupcakes and drinks.
At T.G. Scott, the kindergarten
student who is reading at the high
est level is Ellie Stanley. She is also
the kindergarten student with the
greatest gain in lexile points over
the year. Hudson Holland has the
highest reading
level in the first
grade, and Bent
ley Landsteiner
has the greatest
gain. In 2nd
grade, Lila Dixon
has the highest
reading level, and
Samuel Ortega
has the greatest
gain.
For the 3rd
grade at TGS,
Emery Fuller
has the highest
reading level, and
Cullen Herndon
has the great
est gain. Zylus
Norwood has the
highest reading
level
for 4th
grade,
and
Noah
Godfrey has the greatest
gain. For the 5th grade,
Noah Yawn has the
highest reading level, and
Trevor Gatlin has the
greatest gain.
At Hubbard Elementary
Londyn Chaney was rec
ognized as the kindergar
ten student with the high
est reading level and also
the greatest gain. Jordan
Yates was the 1st grader
with the highest reading
level, and Ethan Grant has
the greatest gain in read
ing. Jenna Ward is the 2nd
grader with the highest
reading level, and Ethan Grant has
the greatest gain. For the 3rd grade,
Ava Holloway has the highest
reading level, and Hayden Peacock
has the greatest gain, Lexie Meyer
achieved the highest reading level
in the 4th grade, and Amira Barnes
has the greatest gain in lexile
points. Exie Ivey has the highest
reading level in the 5th grade, and
Ansley Brennon had the greatest
gain in her reading.
At K.B. Sutton Elementary
Jeremiah Fletcher had the high
est reading level for kindergarten
students and Tessa Smith has
the greatest gain. Tyler Waits has
the highest reading level for 1st
grade, and Caisen Morgan has the
greatest gain. In 2nd grade at KBS
London Daniels has the highest
reading level, and Olivia Dantin
had the greatest gain. Winston
McKneely has the highest read
ing level in 3rd grade, and Amirr
Colley has the greatest gain. Lucas
English has the highest reading lev
el for 4th grade, and Caleb Smith
has the greatest gain. In 5th grade
Brooklyn Ham has the highest
reading level, and Khloe Tench has
the greatest gain in reading.
Ronna DeMichiel said she is
very proud of the students and
that many are reading far above
their grade levels. For example 5th
grader Exie Ivey has tested at 12th
grade level.
