Summer in real earnest with its unevent ful days and quiet evenings has come upon us wiih the first of August, and the gaieties which have made the season delightful until now are beginning to fail. Even the attractions out of sown are wan ing these hot days, and people who have not yet gone away are glad to sit con tentedly at home and think of cooler hours to come. Monday evening a merry party of young people enjoyed a straw ride to Thunder bolt, taking supper at Runnon Lodge. Mr. John K. Haines took charge of the party, in which were Miss Mary Haines, Miss Annie Haines, Miss Allio Eve of Augusta, Miss Rosa Sullivan, Miss Jennie Haines, Miss Flora Dancy, Mr. Richard Hines and Mr. Mack Corbett of Macon, Mr. Walter Duckworth, Mr. Hubert Duck worth, Mr. Henry Walthour and Mr. Clarence Connerat. Mrs. Arthur Overton and little Miss Pauline Overton will sail Tuesday for New York on their way to Chappaqua, N. Y., whe.re Mrs. Overton will be joined by Mrs. Charles Lloyd of Brunswick. Mrs. William Garrard and her children left Wednesday for their summer home, in Bluffton. They were accompanied by Miss Lawton, who will stay with Mrs. Garrard for the next two weeks, and will then leave for California, with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cunningham and Mrs. Sarah Cunningham, to spend about six weeks in the West. The usual Monday evening euchre par ty at Hotel Tybee was given this week In honor of Miss Hannah Ferst, and was a very delightful affair. The prizes were carried away by Mrs. Jo Ferst and Mr. William Lazaron. The other players were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Graham, Mrs. Ja cob Lippman, Mrs. S. A. Einstein, Miss Ruth Einstein. Miss Hannah Einstein and Mr. Jansen. Miss Hull returned Wednesday from a visit to Mrs. W r . W. Owens, in Bluffton. Mr. G. Noble Jones and Mr. Fred Saus -6y left Thursday for New York and Sara toga. Mrs. C. F. Moses and her little son have returned from a visit to Mrs. Henry Co hen, in Augusta. Master Percival Moses will leave to-morrow to join his grand mother at Lookout Mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Moses expect to go North Saturday to make an extended trip through Cana do. visiting Halifax. Newfoundland and Prince Edward's Island. Mrs. Alfred Chisholm went to Daufus kie Wednesday to visit Mrs. Harris. Mrs. John Sullivan Schley and her chil dren and Miss Anna Guerard and Mr. W. E. Guerard left Monday for Brevard, N. C. Miss Lina Huger returned during the week from Bluffton and left with Mrs. Habersham for Saluda Thursday night. Mr. Abram Minis sailed Tuesday for New York. At the Thursday evening dance at Ho tel Tybee Mrs. Edward M. Habersham chaperoned Miss Rtghton Habersham, Miss Pritchard, Mr. W. W. Simpson, Mr. Horace Hunter. Mr. Hammond Eve, Mr. Ford and Mr. Stephens. Miss Wtlkins left Tuesday to spend the remainder of the season at Swannanoa. Mr. Lewis M. Warfield returned Thurs day to Baltimore. Mrs. H. M. Comer and the Misses Comer Will go North Tuesday. Miss Fair will leave this week for North Carolina. After n visit to Mr. and Mrs. Adger Fair at their home in Lineolnton, Miss Fair will go to Washington for two or three weeks and thence to Saratoga for the latter part of the season. Mr. A. B. Mrs. Abram Carrington Read of Charles ton is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Wil liam Garrard, in Bluffton. Miss Mary Hopps will go to Bluffton this week to visit Miss Clermont Huger. Mr. Leopold Alexander is spending some time in Clarkesville. Miss Annie Maclean and Miss Marion Maclean, who are spending the summer at Cherry Hill, have gone with Mr. Maclean, on a visit to Warm Springs. Mr. Richard K. Hines and Mr. Mack Corbett of Macon have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Willcox and Miss Myra Willcox have returned to the city after a very pleasant stay at Hotel Ty bee. Miss Myra Willcox will leave Wed nesday for Greenville, S. 0., where she will enter school during the coming win ter. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Howard have gone to Grahatnville to visit relatives. Theus and Master Charlton Theus left Wednesday for Old Point Comfort. Miss Eliza Chisholm, who was the guest of Miss Jeante Haines for two or three days during the week, returned Friday to White Bluff. Mr. and Mrs. S. F. B. In one pleasant party that took supper at Hotel Tybee Thursday evening, and afterwards enjoyed the dancing on the pavilion, were Mrs. Dillon and Miss Dil lon of Thomasville, Miss Williams. Mr W. C. Huston, Mr. F. M. Papy, and Mr. T. M. Palmer. Mrs. E. E. Reynolds left yesterday for Lithia Springs, near Atlanta. Miss Norma Eckstein is visiting Miss Ruth Livingston in Charleston. Tuesday evening at Tybee there was a cakewalk on the hotel pavilion for the benefit of those who had previously given their services so generously lo aid the Fresh Air Home. This performance was rendered with the same skill as were the earlier ones, and quite a substantial sum was realized from the gate receipts. Those who took pert in the entertainment, were: Miss Mary Moore, Miss Linsley Wells, and Messrs. George Johnson. Charles A. Seeman, Frank M. Finney, Willie Riley, Peter Finney and Charles Graham Baughn. Miss Mary Bridges of Augusta, is the guest of Mrs. C. A. Fleming. Miss Edith Robertson is visiting in Charleston. Mrs. J. P. Solomon left Wednesday for Lookout Mountain. The marriage of Miss Inga Gertrude Iverson to Dr. Gustaf Hugo Johnson will take place Thursday evening at half after nine at the Independent Presbyterian Church. One of the features of the evening was a donkey party in which Miss Elizabeth MoPhelan won the first prize, and Master Schley Westcott wen the consolation prize. The little folks were entertained during the evening with a cake walk by Master Leo and Miss Marie Morrissey, and songs by Masters George Barbour and Robert O'Connor. The steamer Santee was chartered for the occasion ond went as far as Wilming ton as a surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Nicho las Lang, Mr. and Mrs. John N. Geil and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Kessel. There were quite a large number gathered on the pavilion of the island, where dancing was enjoyed until late in the evening.
