At the opening good middling nut quoted at 11 cents, uml middling W*, cents, with holder* asking 1% cent higher. At the midday call another % cent was add ed. at which business followed. The trade seems confident that prices are to go much higher later on. since nearly all conditions apparently favor the bull aide of the market. The colton futures market closed weak and Irregular, with price* 4 point* higher to 8 points net lower. During the early hours considerable strength was imparted to the market by better Liverpool ad vlces, coupled with an estimate by Neill of New Orleans placing the growing crop ut ulna und a half million bale*. Later on the market again showed strength in response to a stampede of shorts to cover nnd a large volume of Investment buying There was some disposition to tak- the short sale, but the continued light re ceipts ut the ports, coupled with the re port that a storm was developing In the tlulf tended to exert u counteracting effect Mu, b of the strength of the futures mar ket Is attributed by the local trade to the reluctance to lot short* In "out of the w.-t." thereby maintaining prices without • h ssupport of outside Influences. Those Inclined to the bearish side are not sufft i lently confirmed In their views to war rant operations on their part. The splrttsturpentlne market closed Arm at 35% cents, with a fair demand towards •he closing, ll seemed there was a weak <-r feeling, however, and It will not be surprising If the market yields by reason of the lessened demand, and the efforts of buyers to pound price* The rtwln market cloaed Arm snd unchanged.
