yesterday from Beaufort, N. C., where
she put In after abandoning the water
logged barge Kdith Howes, which was he-
Ing towed to New York Gapt. Avery re
ports that on returning to sea sft**r the
weather had moderated he found that the
barge had gone to pieces, and that her
carsm of yellow pine lumber war scat'ered
for ten mile* near the point ehe was aban
doned. The lumber Is directly In Ue
path of coastwise vessels.
The foreign freight market Is rather
quiet at present, with the tendency for
a yielding In the present rates, which are
regarded aa nominal. Owing to the I'ght
cotton business doing there Is les de
mnnd for room, and the effect Is being
fell. Brokers look for a renewed demand
for room when the cotton market be
comes settled and trading In cotton re
