Interevttng F.xerelsev nt th© Kln dr rwM rtena. - Thanksgiving nt the Kate Baldwin svs tm of kindergartens l*a been celebrated most thoroughly and npproptUiely. on account of the celebration at the two free kindergartens yesterday that of the Phllbrlck took place Tuesday from to 11 o'clock. The spirit of thankfulness i* inculcatel by finding out for a month pre vious the bountiful provision that <lo*l h* made, through nature, for man und ani mals, and how the various fruits of the earth arc gathered and sto r c I for future use. In thla way, the child realises his Mi ssings, ami th© culmination of the work la the offering that each chi and brings for som© on** less fortutai*- than him self. Tuesday, therefore, the IV llbrh k klndergarten was a scene that afforded great pleasure io the mothers and other visitors. The rom- on the parlor flo-*r of 302 Hall sir.et. * ist. being very luge and spacious, ure beautifully adapt***! to kindergarten needs, and wer*- particularly attractive in their decorations of bright paper chains arranged like a canopy com ing from tne chandelier in the center of the room Th** fruits of the earth and the work of the children were gathered together on a table most effectively, while the songs and games and the bas kets full of provisions brought by the children all mad© It an occasion worth re membering Un© feature esp© dolly en joyed by the children was the opening of ihelr pickles, put up with their own hand* in or*lei to give their mother* a surprise. The work during th© preparation for Thanksgiving In painting modeling in clay an*! card board, and above all. the prac tical lessons In the cooking of simp)© food. whs .a great surprise to many of th© par ents. and much pleasure was ©xpre*©d. At the two free kindergartens yester day a gala scene was presen-ted The decorations have never been o beautiful or so elaborate, and nt Kate Baldwin Free Kindergarten No. 2 the Thanksgiv ing picture was quite a feature. On a large sheet of paper was drawn a tree, full of autumn leaves, painted and pasted on by the children. In the tree were the “ten little squirrels” told about In the Unger piny, while n hive, foi led and past ed. showed the work of the bees that were flying Into it. The children were so proud of this work of art that repre sented so much tlm© and thought, that remarks were made by many of them, even during the engrossing occupation of eating their Thanksgiving feast, which consls’ed of the usual hr© id and milk augmented by honey and fruit. Even among these children, not so well off In this world’s good®, t!►© same spirit pre vailed and offerings were brought to make Thanksgiving a brighter day for other people. Some of the work of the children was shown nt each kindergarten, and at No. 1. on Indian street, a very pleasant so cial feature was the gather ng of mothen of the children to watch the festlclties. Not a little of the p!*owure of the dav came from the happy faces of the princi pals and the assistant teachers of th© training class, nnd the feeling of the real love and understanding between them and the hundred and thirty-five children that form their charge In th© kindergartens of the system The growth of th kindergarten* slnee last year Shi* time I* one of the source* of thankfulm * to tt* founders, and when one looked a* the picture In the place of honor at each school, decorated by the loving hand* of little children, one rould not but he Impressed by the fact thas her memorial was Indeed a living one and one that must grow more and rnorf ns the educational aide of klndergaten work ings become recognised, and people see that the basis of good training In the future lies in the kinder*.irt.-n principles of self-activity, and all-aided development The management return* sincere th.uk* to the friend* of the kind- I who have sent donation* of fruit, flower* and money to help ouf the Thanksgiving feus* for th* children of the free kindergartens.
