It began on the sidewalk where the men scuffled for awhile, then Hoffman retreated into the cigar store, where he was followed by Al len. When Patrolman Hsutm. who made the arrest, reached tne scene, he was in time to see Allen stflking Hoffman on th* head with a pistol, while Hoffman, al ready bloody from a blow that he had re ceive*! on the nos*- and mouth, was try ing to defend himself.
