AT THE THEATER.
.•The Belle ol' New York” To-night's
Attraction.
The Belle of New York” will be
given its first production in Savannah
to-night. Miss Beulah Dodge will
have the role of the pretty Salvation
Army lassie, and it is safe to say that
Miss Dodge will be an agreeable sur
prise to the theater-goers of this city.
She possesses a rich voice, is pretty
and give*, promise of making anew
record as a Salvation Army lassie.
Among the principals are Edward J.
Connelly, Joseph Kane, Arthur Dea
gon, James Darling, Mae Sailer, Hattie
Wells, Virginia Ross, Laura Witt and
a most shapely and beautiful chorus.
"Forget Me Not," with Rose Coghlan
as Stephanie De Mohrivart, will be the
attraction at the theater Friday night.
The play is dramatic but never de
scends to the trickery of melodrama,
even in the scene which strips a mer
cenary adventuress of a position in
society which she has held by means
of intrigue, blackmail and effrontery,
with an ever-present insouciaisce and
wily manner to disarm a coterie of ene
mies plotting her downfall. It is in
the self-possession, in the exhibition of
feminine wiles and couquetries when
danger threatens the position she has
usurped in society, as well as in the
self command and stolidity exhibited
during some dramatic scenes that Rose
Coghlan shows she is mistress of her
art and able to depict a crushed, broken,
and terrified woman after her final
downfall. The supporting cast in
cludes a number of ladies, whose cos
tumes, voices and grace, proclaim the
fact that they have participated in
many a society play.
"Foxy Quiller" will be the attraction
at the theater next Tuesday. “Foxy
Quiller” shows an intention on the part
of the composer to emphasize the older
and-more -tegmmiC hr comic opera
and more especially the popular waltz
rythms. The music of the first act is
typical of the English song forms, and
the waltz rythms are only Introduced
when the Corsican appears on the
scene. As the second and third acts
are laid in Corsica there are in these
scenes Italian music. The opera was
designed not only to introduce Mr.
Sykes and his creation of Foxy Quiller,
hut to give an all star cast opportunity
for the display of their talents. The
sale of seats will open Saturday morn
ing at 9 o’clbck.
ST. JOHN’S CHOIR BOYS.

A delightful concert was given by

cases, insisted on recall pieces being
given. Miss Fretwell’s numbers in
particular, were most favorably re
ceived. The programme was as fol

Mr. Edwyn E. Woodhams.

ABT’S MANDOLIN RECITAL.

"ill play here to-morrow, began his
Southern tour last night at Columbia*
In January Mr. Abt goes West as far
as Nebraska, filling many engage

His concert at Lawton Memorial to
morrow night bids fair to be a great
success, judging from the number of
tickets sold and the interest general
ly shown.
