BOWLING SEASON
NEARING FINISH
No relative Change in Standing of the Clubs.
Things were slow In the Inter-Club
Bowling League match last night, the
players being fatigued from the extra
holiday exercises on Monday. The
Hussars won two of the three games
from the Yacht Club, but their play
ing was only average, no individual
score within ten points of 200 being
made. The Hussars won the first
game by 90 pins and the second by 12
pins. The Yacht Club won the third
game by 55 pins, their total in that
game being the highest of the evening,
and the only one that will class within
the league's “fairly good” scores. The
highest individual score was made by
Richmond, who lead with 190 pins. The
second highest was made by Lindsay,
his score being 189. Austin was third
with 186.
The attendance was good and the
games were enjoyed, though they were
not spirited. The game to-morrow
night will mark the finish of two
thirds of the second series. From then
on each team will play in four matches
or twelve game. The Hussars are now
leading and gradually increasing their
lead. They have not a safe lead.
BY HALF A POINT
SAVANNAH ATHLETES DEFEATED
In Y. M. C. A. Tournament by Atlanta.
The Savannah athletes from the
Young Men's Christian Association in
attendance at the state convention at
Columbus were defeated in the gym
nastic contest last night by Atlanta
by but half a point, Atlanta scoring 232
points to the Forest City boys 331%.
Macon was far behind, with a total
score of 257 2-3. The following report
gives fuller details of the contest:
Oblumbus, Feb. 24.—The state Y. M.
C. A. convention ended to-night with
an exhibit of the physical work of the
association at the Eagle and Phenix
Club, the building being packed with
spectators.
Following an address by J. M. Gra
ham of Savannah on the physical work
of the future in the association, ath-
TATTNALL COUNTY HORSES
Likely to be Hatched With Savan
na!' li ii oners.
Arrangements were practically made
yesterday morning for a race between
running horses owned in Tattnall coun
ty, and the pick of the strings now at
the local course, the same to take place
on the afternoon of March 17.
Yesterday morning the News told
of Hir. J. H. Heery of Reids
ville being in the city and in attend
ance at the races Monday afternoon,
and of his issuing a challenge to race
horses from his county against any
horses now at the Savannah track.
Mr. Heery had a meeting with the lo
cal owners early yesterday morning
relative to arranging matches, which
he proposed to be quarter-mile, half
mile and three-eighths of a mile dashes,
each dash to be a race and each for
$l5O a side.
Mr. neery said he did not care what
horses were pitted against the Tattnall
runners, so long as the riders were not
made to weigh in. but mount at catch
weights. This the local owners object
ed to, and insisted that all the horses
carry riders as near the same weight
as possible. Mr. Heery would not con
sent to this proposition, and if the
matches are not made it will be caused
by this one question. He, however, said
that he would consult with Col. Dur
rance of his town relative to the mat
ter, and would write Mr. Alex Doyle,
acting for the horsemen, the decision.
One of the local owners interested in
the proposed matches said that their
object in insisting on riders of an equal
weight, is that there are no very light
riders here, capable of properly hand
ling a horse, while the Tattnall peo
ple would, in all probabilities, bring
down very light boys for their mounts,
thus putting the Savannah runners at
a disadvantage by carrying the greater
weight.
Mr. Heery realizes the great advan
tage to be gained by weight and it is
because he knows the Tattnall riders
would be the lighter, that he Insists on
catch weights for the jockeys. It is be
lieved, however, this obstacle will be
settled in some manner and the
matches made.
What horses the local owners will
put against the “Cracker” horses has
not been determined upon, if the meet
ing is arranged. There are several
fast animals at the track that did not
run Monday afternoon, and it Is likely
they will be picked from this bunch.
One of the best animals there is Cor
rine, a likely little mare, owned by Mr.
Garnett, who was scheduled to run in
the half-mile, but scratched at the last
moment. Invasion is another cracker
jack, as is also Tommie Foster, Pom
palona and several others.
The Tattnall stockmen are known to
be foxy and very seldom make a match
unless they are reasonably sure of win
ning. It will be remembered they have
been here several time in the past to
run matches and each time carried off
the money. They take an interest in
the sport, and have the business down
so fine that they know just what a
horse can do under any circumstances.
In meeting the horses now here their
runners will be up against some of the
best in the South, and if they win
must run faster than they have ever
done before.
“WHITE GHOST” IS FREE.
Famous Paring Machine at Last
Free from Legal Contention.
At last the “White Ghost” motor
pacing bicycle machine, the property
of Frank Ed. Spooner, of New York,
which has been in litigation in this
city since early In December of last
year, has at last been released and
is now speeding to its owner in New
ark. N. J.
As often told before this machine
was brought here in November by
Joe Nelson for pacing purposes. Nel
son borrowed money on the machine
with which to leave the etty. Finally
the amount was paid by Spooner and
the “Ghost" ordered forwarded him.
About this time Jack Prince claimed
a debt of Spooner and attached the
machine. This obligation was also
settled and the pacer was on the dock
ready to be shipped when Hamp Leo
pold. brought It back into the custody
of Justice N'uughtln upon an attach
ment In the sum of $4.40 due for bat
teries supplied.
This was about two weeks ago and
Spooner had to dig down In his jeans
‘gain and "fix it up.” Yeaterday The
Ghost" began its Journey free from
hcwever. and may be headed, so the
probabilities are that the next three
weeks will bring forth the best there
is in the league, and it will not be
surprising to see the present good rec
ords bettered. It is probable that the
Yacht Club will give the Hussars a run
to the finish, and the Tomochichis
have by no means a hopeless chance.
The scores of last night's match are
as follows:

letic teams from the associations at
Atlanta, Savannah and Macon took
part in a gymnastic contest, going
through exercises on the horse, paral

won by a scratch. Out of a possible 360
points, the teams scored as follows:
Atlanta, 332; Savannah 331%; Macon,
257 2-3.
Following a fine Indian club exhibi

Atlanta teams played an exciting game
of basket ball. The game was won by
Macon, 13 to 11.
In the athletic contests the teams
were: Macon, Orr, Solomon, Pickens

Mr, IV. T. Rainey has a Mercedes

Mr. R. A. Rainey a Panhard of forty

of more than a mile a minute or, in
exact figures, of about seventy miles

yesterday that they may have some
races on the State Fair track and will
probably stake off a mile on some good
road and try for a record for that dis

If there is any doubt in your mind as to your condition, take from yout
urine on rising about four ounces, place it in a glass or bottle and' let it
stand 24 hours. If on examination it is milky or cloudy, if there is a buck
dust settling, or if small particles float about in it, your kidneys are in need
of immediate attention.
No matter how many doctors you may have tried —no matter how much
money you may have spent on other medicines, you really owe it to yourselt
to at least give Swamp-Root a trial. Its stanchest friends to-day are those
who had almost given up hope of ever becoming well again.
If you are already convinced that Swamp-Root is what you need, you can
purchase the regular 50-eent and SI.OO size bottles at drug stores everywhere.
Don’t make any mistake, but remember the name, Swamp-Root— Dr. Kilmer s
