FINE CROPS OF WHEAT.
Gronn by Farmer* in NorthfMt
Georgia.
Athens, Ga., July I.—ln spite of the
fact that this year has not been very
favorable to wheat culture, there are
a number of farmers in this section of
the state who have demonstrated that
Northeast Georgia is as good a wheat
country as anywhere in the United
States.
Mr. W. P. Price of High Shoals, one
of the leading farmers of Oconee coun
ty, has made on twelve and one-half
acres 449 bushels of wheat, or an av
erage of thirty-six bushels per acre.
There are other farmers in this section
who say their crops will turn out as
well. More than 150 of the farmers of
Northeast Georgia are contestants for
the handsome premiums offered by the
Athens Wheat and Oat Fair this year.
This organization is now 3 years old;
has been the means of encouraging
hundreds of the farmers to engage in
the cultivation of small grain crops.
