County Commissioners of those coun
ties which have decided to *ke their
proportion of short term felony con
victs for work on the public roads in
lieu of their share of the public school
fund from convict h.re .ll be held at
the Capitol on March It to make the
filial arrangements for .he transfer on
April L when the new law goes into
effect. Arrangements will then be
made to have the envicts transported
from their present ramps to the new

have cancelled requisitions: Troup, 22;

Tu Pay Dollar for Dollar.
John L. Gatins, formerly the mana
ger of the Southern Exchange, a
branch of the defunct A. B. Baxter &
Cos., stock brokers, returned to Atlanta
to-day from New York. Mr. Gatins
stated that Baxter & Cos. would pay
creditors 100 cents on the dollar for
their indebtedness. "The creditors of
the firm will not lose one cent," said
Mr. Gatins. "Of course. It will take
some little time to straighten out the
accounts of the firm, but the creditors
will receive their money.”
Jadyr Italy Sworn In.
Hon. A. F. Daly of Wrightsvllle was
here to-day and called on Gov. Terrell
to be sworn in as Judge of the Superior
courts of the Middle Circuit, in which
position he succeeds Judge Beverly D.
Evans on March 19. Just before taking
the oath Judge Daly happened to re
mark that he had a case to argue In the
Supreme Court.
"You had better go and attend to
that first,'' said Gov. Terrell, "or you
will be disqualified to make your argu
ment.'* Judge Daly took the Gover
nor’s advice, argued his case and re
turned and took the oath.
The law prohibits Superior Court
Judges from practicing In any of the
courts of the state.
Railroad Mortgage Deed.
There was filed for record to-day at
the Fulton County Court House a
mortgage deed given by the Atlanta
and Birmingham Air Line Hallway to
the Morton Trust Company and Hiram
B. Berry, trustees, to secure an issue of
second mortgage gold bonds amounting
to not over 15,000,000. The mortgage
was given on all the lines of the rail
road of the grantor company in the
stales of Georgia and Alabama. It will
secure an issue of 5 per cent., second
mortgage gold bonds, due Jan. 1, 1924.
This issue will be subject to the first
mortgage made to the Knickerbocker
Trust Company and Frederick I. Eld
ridge, trustees, dated May 27, 1903, se
curing an issue not to exceed $10,000,000
In bonds of the Seaboard Air Line.

Albany, Oa„ March 14.—Word has
Just been received from Washington
that the Postofflce Department has or
dered a mall clerk placed on the pas
senger trains Nos. 73 and 74. between
Albany and Thomaaville on the At
lanta- f’osst Line Railway. This train
leaves Albany at 7:45 a. m., con
ne ting here with the Central’s early
morning train, which bring* the east
ern mall from Atlanta. The train re
turning arrives at Albany at 7:15 p.
rn , making the night northern con
nection on the Central.
This gives the people along the line
of the Coast Line from Albany to
ThomasvtUe. Including Pelham. Camil
la, Flint, Meigs and other thriving
towns, a double dally mall service. It
Is a convenience for which they\ have
long been clamoring and to which they
•re entitled. The matter was arrang
ed through the pefcjistent efforts of
Congressman Griggs.
Prominent Albany Man 111.
Albany, Oa., March 14.—News has
been received here of the critical Ill
ness of Hon. Charles Wessolowsky of
this city, who is at Tampa. Fia. Mr
M?sso)owsky, who is one of the most
distinguished Hebrew citizens of the
state, had Just begun the delivery of
a lecture In the synagogue at Tampa
when he was stricken with paralysis.
After being carried to bis apartments
he partially rallied, hut is still In a
critical condition, and fears are enter
tained that he will not recover. The
physicians have forbade bringing him
home. Mr. Wessolowsky is a promi
nent Mason, and has been grand high
priest of Georgia.

fact that among the white people there
has not beer, a single death from con

correspond closely with those of pre
vious years.
